I went to a yard this afternoon where I am growing lots of seedlings. I had a few blooms I thought might be open. A friend was going to water for me Friday but it looked like she didn't. Lots of pots had fallen over.
A seedling that was about 9 ft, so straight with a beautiful crown had fallen over. Part of the Y had broken off with the flowers that were so close to being open. And as luck would have it, it is the darkest one I have ever had coming out of the calyx. And it is a low calyx also...my fav. WOE IS ME!
Here is the broken piece laying on top of the pot where I put it. In person it is even darker.
Did you hear me crying?
Oh so sorry Kell. That little striped bloom looks so cool. Like a candycane.
Wow, Kell. I'm so sorry my luck came to California. I would have cried also. It would have been great to have seen what these looked like opened.
Gosh, that is a cute bloom. I'm sure glad you went checking. Hoping everything will be okay.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Brug! It looks like another beauty!!
I would be crying too kell, my seedlings are still looking good, next year seems like a long way off
Oh Kell, what a bummer -- to use one of your phrases: that sucks lemons! Big time! I'm so sorry!!! I hope that they will recover okay for you :) Gretchen
Kell, I can understand how disappointed you must be. I would be crying too.
beautiful Flower Kell! Good thing it should root for ya!
Take many cuttings!!!
Oh no Kell!! I am so very sorry! I know you must be very disappointed. Things will get better!!! I have faith!
What a bummer. Bad friend, bad, bad friend.
:-( I'm sorry Kell. Cheer up because you have a beauty there and I know you'll be able to help it recover.
:( What a shame.. Looks like it is going to be a beauty though. Is there any buds on the other part of the Y?
Sorry Kell,
I know how feel. I have often gone on vacation...well, not often, but when I do I come home to find something was forgotten at watering time and died. It just seems that NOBODY knows how much those plants to mean to us except US. Cheer up! At least they will live to bloom on another day. And we'll all be waiting to see them lovely pictures.
Hugs,
Daisy
What a shame. it sure is pretty.
The brugs will recover Kell! Was your friend sick, that she couldnt water them?
I hate to say it since you seem to be upset about this, but now you will have extra cuttings. I no longer get upset about broken branches or tops because they grow back quickly. There are so many and things are going to happen. I guess I have learned they will grow and bloom again. You were fortunate to see the color and shape of the blooms and therefore will not have to wonder what they will look like. I hope to see many more of your blooms from the field. What are you going to do this winter with all of those at the field?
I told you that you could use my yard. :) I would have watered them!
It does look like a beauty and you always have next year.
Here I thought that was the wind howling last night! LOL... So sorry....
That is really cool looking Kell!! I too like the looks of the low calyx. Got it rooting?
Yes Deb! So she better be a keeper! LOL
The reason I was so crushed is it had the beautiful beginnings of an alley tree. It had such a pretty canopy. And it was so straight and tall. Now becuase it was laying on its side awhile, the head is now all crooked.
And the beginning Y, now has 1/3 and another 2 Ys on top of that gone. So it is no longer in proportion. Sexy Lady lost one of her first Ys and she never grew it back so the start of the canopy is now off balance. The beginning Ys on an alley tree mmake its bones for all the years ot come. You always keep those, you trim off the higher ones.
There some buds on the remaining Ys. So we shall see.
Kell, I am so sorry. Last year we went to see my neice get married in PA and I ask a friend to water my plants. She only half listened and thought I would be back after a weekend there, Well it only takes a day here to dry out pots.
She "ASSUMED" we were home and never came by. We were gone almost 2 weeks. I lost alot of plants. She said she was sorry, but it did not bring them back.
Oh well I will never ask her again. But it was too late then.
I am truely sorry kell.
Sandy
So sorry about your alley tree, But,with some inventive pruning you could still have that tree, it will just take longer. The canopy will be fuller balance it out and it will fill in, the slight bend might straighten as it grows to the light, I have had to tape one to bamboo for a season but it worked. Good luck it looks like a real keeper as far as the bloom goes. cinnabor
How's the color on this one now? I'd love to see another picture. It would be cool if it would keep the candy cane effect.
Wouldn't it Shirley. O.K. everyone think candycane lol.
Well Kell how is she recovering after her accident??? She is a cutie
I love the flower Kell
and I know how you feel
I broke creamsicle last year, one whole Y right off due to my klutzyness
I had to tie it to another brug to keep it standing,it was way lopsided
took it almost a year, but its looking good again
Oh, all the buds fell off. Every one. I do not know what happened. She almost looks like she was sprayed with a chemical. So next year it is! I am trying not to scream!! But I have an incredibly dark seedling now that is flowering. So I am off and running in another direction.
I really hate to hear that all the buds fell off. It would have been interesting to see if it would have colored up completely and how dark it might have gotten.
Hope to see a picture of that dark seedling that you are off and running in another direction. . . I guess to take a picture!
An incredibly dark seedling - - Kell, where are the pictures? You can't just keep us hanging.........
Kell, I was wondering what all that crying was, I heard you all the way over here....
It is a shame, it is frustrating, but you can try next year, I know that is no consolation....
boo hoo, I share your weeping.
Oh I want her to stay looking like a candycane. That would be really cool
Kell, sorry about the bad luck with a friend not being dependable. Yes let us see your darker one. Donna
Sadly, it is not at home and I had hoped to go yesterday but got sidetracked. I am gonig back today.
I have so much work to do at the rental garden today. I had put down 3 rolls of weed cloth and at $50 a roll. What a joke. The weeds have just grown like crazy under it. It now stands 1 foot off the ground in places. I need to cut it all away from the pots to pull it up which should take hours. I wish just could roll it up.
We may get our first rain here next week and the weeds will go nuts. Where ever I water they sprout. I am using pre-emergent instead and need to get it down before the rains cause massive germination.
That is quite a brug garden. Do you ever get any rest from watering and weeding? Looks like a lot of work to me.
Kell, I am impressed by your brug ranch! That must be a lot of work. I hope the pre-emergent works for you. I've found that if the soil is disturbed a few weeks after it's applied, seeds that were buried deeply enough can work their way to the surface and sprout anyway. Then it's time for Roundup.
What a garden! I hope, that many of them will flower for you before it gets cold. Do you keep them over winter?
Kell, what are you gonna do with all those for the winter? Leave them in place? You might be able to cover them with some of that spun - cotton, row cover stuff and they'd be okay for a couple of frost. I think you can buy it in big rolls.
Kell how on earth do you keep all those watered with no rain??? They look great
Wow, Kell. It looks like Brug City. LOL
