She's not very pretty right now is she? Good news is, the pods will be ready to pick very soon. I've already picked about five. Plus my painters knocked off a big branch that had four pods on it. I stuck it in water, not sure if they will get ripe or not.
Rosamond has been busy this summer....
I would sure love to try growing some of the seeds for ya Kristi!
I'd love for you to grow some out Phil. Didn't you get my last email? I'll resend it.
no Kristi! I did not get it! Thank you!
Wow,What a beauty!!..
How do you do it Kristi? I pollinated 9 Golden Lady. Stayed on for about a week, then one each day fell off, until.............all gone! My "black" thumb?
Beautiful picture phil!
Gloria, I just got really lucky this year. Every single brug out there has seed pods on it. Some of them I've been taking them off because they were weighing down the branches. The L'amour you gave me (thank you) even set a pod and it's a small plant. You do not have a black thumb. You can root ANYTHING.... I kill more then I root. LOL... I'd much rather be able to get them rooted the set seeds. Heck, I'm not even going to grow any out.
A few Christmas lights and you are set. Already has lots of ornaments on it. Congrats on all the pods.
That is about as much decorating as I like to do for Christmas. LOL..... I'm such a grinch.
Wow -- that's great looking! I hope the rest of my pods have a chance to ripen before frost...
Is this the time of the year to get pods? Do you have to pollinate to get pods? Can you get them the first year of a plant? Bear with me -- obviously, I know NOTHING about pods!
Terrie
Terrie -- either you or the bees (or birds or moths) have to pollinate the brugs to introduce pollen from one brug to the stigma of a genetically different brug. If the pollination is successful, a seed pod will begin to grow. Depending on culture, it can take from a couple to many months for the pods to ripen...
Thanks, Gretchen. Learning all the time.
You're welcome Terrie -- we've all been there at some point :)
A question - I believe Kell mentioned something about 'self pollinating' brugs. It might not have been Kell, but, whoever it was, am I to understand that there are self pollinating brugs, and, if so, which brugs?? TIA!!!
SherryLike ... Arborea will self pollinate.
Sangs will form pods with their own pollen also. I've read where they will self pollinate and where they need help so I can't say for sure. Both of these plants, sangs and arborea can cross with each other also.
