Thanks everyone who responded! I have Shoofly flying my way as we speak! Toooo cool!

Anyone have any seeds for trade? (I've posted this on the planttrading forum as well.)

What kinds of seeds? Perennial? Vegetable? ???

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Shoo Fly seeds.

Well, duh....boy do I feel dumb...LOL. Never heard of that! Nicandra physalodes...had to look it up! It's called "Apple of Peru" on the west coast! Common names are so funny, so changeable from region to region. Well, at least I learned something new today....besides how to eat a chayote.

I was on the ID forum and there's a thread with a picture of one and it really looks cool. Like the person said, it looks very much like Chinese Lanterns only they are green. Now, of course, I GOTTA have one!

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

Yep, that was us....I can go pick ya some if you want! My client has a HUGE vine invading his yard from the neighbor's side. Let me know if you can't find one out there in the East, and I'll send some to you. (The stupid thing would probably cost you $5 if you find it in NY, unless of course it's grown there too!)
It's a perennial vine, dies down and comes back every year!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

That sounds PERFECT! What might I have that you would want for trade? Do you do any veggies?

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

Yup, veggie gdn every year. Like ornamental gourds, too. Looks like you've played with heirloom tomatoes. I also have a hoya, epiphyllum, salvia, orchid,christmas/easter/thanksgiving cactus, or most anything unusual passion. What the heck, I love plants. Been thinking about adding Streptocarpus. If you think it's fun, most likely so will I. I'll call my client and ask when I can come pick some chayote. Karen

Hi Kachinagirl,
If you are looking for onamental gourd seeds I have lots. I would love to try a few of the chayote seeds if you happened to pick more then one trade. Which type of gourds are you looking for? Let em know.
Thanks
Jan
PS, my ebay name is Kachinamama. Heheh

The chayote should grow great where you are, Jan. Supposedly, it will cover a very large pario arbor pretty fast and the fruit hangs down below the leaves...neat huh? I will take a look and see if I can find some that look 'aged' enough for the seed to be viable. I cut mine open today, the seed is at the flower end of all things! It looks like a big lima. As for gourds, let me make sure I can get you some chayote fruit first! (mostly I want to try a Martinhouse, Large Bushel, giant....any of the large hardshell crafter's gourds). Also, I have no idea how to grow the chayote, let me know if you find info! Karen

This somehow got away from us - I'm looking for shoofly NOT chayote. From what I understand, with chayote, the whole fruit is the seed (again, this info is from michaelp, who grows them regularly).

Have lots of veggie seeds - will forward a list to you in the am.

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

oops, you're right, sorry! must use private mail more when I get off subject!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

No biggie - I do that all the time - much to everyone's chagrin, I'm sure! Sometimes it gets a little hard to find a trade offer, though, when it's in the middle of a different heading. In fact, I've been looking for one with eweed from about the middle of last month, and it's not in one of his threads or one of mine, so I guess I'm going to have to fess up - drat...I've forgotten what we're doing...

Anyway, I have lots of different beans, eggplant, onion, greens, corn, zucchini, squash, several dozen varieties of tomatoes, pumpkin and melons! Surely there's something in there you could use!? Let me know what you fancy!

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

I'm sorry Sequee, I really did confuse things. I do not have Shoo Fly. Someone out there....please offer some Shoo Fly for Sequee!

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

Sequee,
I have enough for about one trade..Not looking for anything special..What ya got? Just send me a list via email.. If I don't see anything you can have them for sasbe..

I must warn you, here in the south they are a pesky weed, but may not be in your zone.. They reseed madly here..

Hee, hee! I'll survive without it, I guess! (Got along just fine before I knew it existed, right?)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Sequee, I've got nicandra seeds.. lots of them. They put out copeous amounts of seed. One of my favorite plants! I have 'Black Pod', 'Splash of Cream' and ones with white flowers. Email me if you want some.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, Weezi - I'm soooo excited! You've got mail!

Larkie - where did you come from??? We must have been posting at the same time and I got got notified. Do you know what kind you have?

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

Not sure of which one, but the flowers are small and a light purple or lavander..

Larkie
