Allium Schubertii

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Does anyone know where I might get a few of these bulbs? Fraser's Thimble Farm on Salt Spring Island sells them, but would cost me about $15.00 for 2 bulbs after shipping and taxes. :( Does anyone have them or know of another supplier...maybe some place like ... Walmart?

Keep an eye open at Home Depot or Rona. Some of our local nurseries carry them also.

Thanks echoes, we have a Rona here. I'll check with them. I should check with the local nursery too. I forgot they were still open. :)

Echoes, I was able to purchase a couple of Allium Schubertii bulbs as well as Allium Purple Sensation at Art Knapp's in Penticton. That capped off a wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend.

A little off topic but has anyone in the lower zones tried growing http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/430776/? It's one I have often eyed.

I haven't tried that one, but I planted Gladiator last fall. All I got was foliage this year but at least they are alive. Maybe they will bloom next year.
I keep trying nectaroscordum too, but have little success. Drainage, drainage, drainage.

I grow giganteum in Newfoundland and its actually multiplying! But then we are zone 5b. However, my brother in calgary has grown Purple Sensation and one that looks like A. rosenbachianum, a giganteum wannabe that is listed as zone 6! So I think with some mulching, you should get away with giganteum in MooseJaw

OFG, do you have a Costco anywhere near you? They have the alliums in bags down here from about mid February.

Thanks echoes and Todd......I've grown purple sensation (with success), but wondered about the other two. I think I will give one of them a try and do quite a bit of mulching. The price has always made me think twice but I'll take the plunge and order one from Botanus.
