I grow and sell both Shredded White and Frosty Pink for the local Botanical Garden and Hilltop Arboretum sales. In cuttings I made for the early spring sale, no blooms have developed yet. For the October sale, I made the cuttings in July. Both the Frosty and the Shredded White cuttings have either bloomed or have buds. I made one air layer on the Shredded White with a Y but the rest were like this - a single stem.

Perhaps the time of the year in which the cuttings were made makes a difference. The cuttings I made for the spring sale were actually started last fall - the top growth killed off in winter so these cuttings were from brand new wood. The cuttings for the fall sale (this is one of those) were taken from stems on the parent that had already bloomed - though there was no visible evidence that any bud formation was started when these cuttings were taken.

I had a hard time believing that a plant this size would support a bloom which was almost as big as the plant itself. This bloom was approximately 1/2 the size of the blooms on the mature parent when it opened fully.

I have a brug that splits. It is called Peach Frost and I got it from Parks seed Co. The photo iof the bloom in the catalog did not show any spliting. It is less than a year old, and the first blooms, nine of them, were all split. The last blooms have some split and some not, but they all have six tendrils. Some had four or so splits and some only two. This is my first brug, and I really know very little about them.

I woulnd't mind what it did as long as I had one that would bloom, I have several seedlings now but long time to wait for the bloom stage

I got this one in the spring of this year, and the first blooms were in July. When it arrived it was in a 4 inch pot so I am assuming it was a seedling. I put it into the ground when it was about a foot tall. It grew very fast. The flower is actually quite nice both ways, but I like it better without the spits.

How did you get it to bloom with it being so small? I've had one for two years now without a bloom!!!

I guess it is the luck of the draw. My Frosty Pink hardly bloomed the first year so I moved it into the sun, used a tiller to tear up the soil compaction, added a lot of compost, couple handfuls of 13-13-13 slow release, and a fair amount of water. It has bloomed profusely this year. The Brugs seem to like evenly moist soil - not wet - but well drained, humus rich and moist to bloom. The Shredded White likes much the same but seems to do better with protection from the afternoon sun.

I am guessing that yours has not bloomed, more than anything else, because of the drought conditions you have had in the Atlanta area. A lot of people grow them in pots - and unless you are using a big pot, the growth is somewhat restricted and it is difficult to regulate wet vs dry. That could also be a factor.
