I forgot to send this out and I thought it was probably easiest to just post here. Print it out if you'd like:
Henna~Lawsonia inermis
Henna is a plant native to Africa and Asia so it likes full sun and heat. Any temperatures below 50 degrees will cause your plant to lose its leaves.
Henna should be brought indoors where cold winters occur and can be kept in a sunny window. Let dry out slightly between waterings and feed with any common plant food during the growing season: spring and summer. All potted plants benefit from having the soil changed once a year.
How to make henna dye: (Note: Mixture needs to sit for 24 hours)
Collect a bunch of henna leaves, about 20 grams, and let them dry. Then grind to a powder. Mix with strained lemon juice; keep adding until it becomes a thick paste with no dry lumps remaining. Cover and set aside for 12 hours at about 80 degrees.
Add one teaspoon of sugar and one teaspoon strained lemon juice. Add about 50 drops baby/olive or essential oil. At this point your dye should be creamy. Do not add to much lemon juice or your dye will be runny and do not add too little or it will be too thick. If you are mixing your henna for hair dying purposes, add more lemon juice to create a liquid consistency.
Place mixture into applicator or sealed bag. Let sit for another 12 hours at about 80 degrees. Your henna dye is now ready to use!
Refrigerate for storage.
To all my henna postagers
I would love some Henna if you still have some. Please let me know and I'll send postage for it or let me know what you like and I'll see what I've got to trade.
I have been looking for this plant and e-mailed you about it..Just let me know if you still have any.
Seems like I am always late in checking all these treads..(:
Thanks so much
