That is a delightful angle on a Monarch. Nowadays the Monarch is also quite common in Eastern Australia. I believe they found their own way here, but finding their food plant was already established as a weed, they stayed. They are not common down here in Victoria, but we have had an occasional one in our garden. Here is a picture I took in New South Wales some years ago.

Do you get the African Monarchs Down Under or the kind we get here in America and Mexico?
The Monarchs in Australia are I believe from America, having island hopped across the Pacific and found all the way that their food plant had preceded them.
