Carly has been sort of itchy/scratchy this summer. Nothing serious...or so we thought....anyway, she was having a scratching episode with a little foot chewing, so I took her out to our cousin's who is our vet. There is absolutely no redness, her coat is beautiful, nothing in her ears...just mildly to slightly moderate itchy/scratchy. Dr. Paul figured something was blooming and suggested Benedryl till the weed season was over. She gets very little people food and never seemed to have any problems that warrented a food change...she eats Hills Nature's Best.
On a whim...and because we have a vet in the family, we sent a blood sample off to a lab to have it looked at for specific allergens.
It came back today and this dog is allergic to EVERYTHING. And not just a little...most are over the 60MAU point. (that's for palmbob's benefit) Most foods and lots of outdoor common things are in the 75-80 range with liver being ther highest at 82 MAU
That's 22 common foods over 40 MAU and 54 other everyday plants/items besides food that are over 50 MAU
Dr. Paul called the lab to make sure they had tested the right blood...he couldn't believe it. He's got animals with 1/4 the problems that are literally chewing their skin off.
Well, we change her food...that's a given
Do we opt for the allergy shots? Dr. Paul rates them at about 50-60% success rate
Has anyone done this?
Have you done any of this type of treatment palmbob?
