as you might know, my dw and i cook for the priests at our local church. usually they like things pretty bland and boring but once in a while when they have guests they ask us to make something "different".
since there seems to me a big interest in texas hold em poker on tv right now, my wife tried this.
she took boneless pork chops at least 3/4 inch thick and sliced each one into three slices without cutting all the way through. the end result was she was able to "fan" out the pieces so that they resembled a "hand" of cards.
we then made polenta and when it cooled we shaped them into "cards"
we used yellow and squash to represent the playing "chips"
we finished with mashed sweet potatoes and shaped them into numbers to put on the pork and polenta "cards"
i should have taken a picture of this. it looked great and the pries appreciated it and had a good laugh as well as a good meal.
a different way to prepare pork chops
