Finally I got this tiny little butterfly!

Modi'in, Israel

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get one with it's wings spread as it only spread them in order to fly away very very quickly! I hope I can find out what kind he is as he is very lovely. He's also very tiny...only about a centimeter long.

From this angle, you can see how the white of the eyes on his wings show torquoise-y blue in the right lighting.

I found out what s/he is: Syntarucus pirithous. Here's a link: http://www.nature-of-oz.com/lycanidae1.htm ... scroll about half-way down. This is a great site and I was able to identify the other two butterflies I've shot in my garden too :-).

Your lovely little butterfly is Lang's Short-tailed Blue Syntarucus pirithous aka Leptotes pirithous http://www.butterfly-guide.co.uk/species/blues/andal14.htm
Here is an excellent web page I found for the Blues and Hairstreaks (Lycaenidae) of Israel. http://www.nature-of-oz.com/lycanidae1.htm

I'm so proud of myself for finding this before all of you experts did as I usually have a very hard time identifying these guys. LOL I agree about that web site. It's amazing!
