My First Greenhouse -

RICHMOND, VA(Zone 7b)

I have ordered the 8'6x8'6 Rion 40 from IGA, and it's on it's way! This one is interlocking and "easy" to assemble. I'm praying it was a good choice, because I've just finished reading Kaufmann's good thread on hers. I wonder about the use of pecan shells; I was considering pebbles as the base - please advise. So far, I've not ordered shelving, but I'll be putting about ten Brug pots inside, plus I'll want to add cuttings and some small seedlings. We went to 46 last night, so it's time to start the cutting. My plants are loaded with blossoms and blooms - my patio is a tropical delight!

There was a couple discussions about the Rion on the greenhouse forum. I considered it too. I think for your zone it's a good choice. I was worried that the walls were too thin. In my zone I wanted a little more insulation so I can use it during the winter. The price is goos anyhow. Keep us posted how you make out with it.

Here is Pink Beauty taken at night when I was out "breathing in" my Brugs.
I am hoping to overwinter her as an allee in my greenhouse by doing a "Monika" trim.

That's a beauty.

Good luck with the greenhouse. I'll bet you will get a lot of good out of it. Pretty plant too.

Congrats on your GH -- I too hope it'll be an easy set up. Please let us know??? I am still happy with the pecan shells as flooring. Since mine is in the middle of my garden, if the greenhouse ever "goes", at least the floor is biodegradeable, and no cleanup required. Plus the drainage is excellent.

Congrats on your greenhouse. You're going to love being able to overwinter plants.

Thanks for the encouragement!
It is starting to arrive in bits and pieces - yesterday the heater and thermostat , just what I needed first!
Apparently, we dig a 6 -8 in trench around the base (provided), and set it in the trench. I have 12 inch cement pavers from a dog run in place that can drain; we'll probably have to remove some of them. So I'd put whatever covering over the pavers - do you think I'll need any covering at all?

Polly, are the pavers going to be the floor??? My GH, also a Rion, is on my deck and I will use insulation on the deck, tarp, 'outdoor' blankets from WalMart, topped with astroturf, which is used outside and is supposed to hold the heat, according to three of my pals, who have had to put their GHs on patios, and one on a kennel floor. I'm wondering if I could use the pavers too, guess I'll just have to try it as I already have some. Tell me about your heater, which will be my next investment. TIA, and good luck!!!

Sounds so exciting Pollygardening. I would love to have a GH. Good Luck with it. I bet next year you are complaining you do not have any room in it for all your new brugs. They seem to multiply so fast. Your PB is sure pretty.

There is much info on the IGC web site, including the Rion 40 package, and the heater to fit. I have also ordered a thermostat I'll preset to turn on at 50 degrees. http://www.igcusa.com/
I'll need to rearrange the pavers since we are supposed to dig the trench around the greenhouse base.
Any ideas on whether to put a topping (pecan shells, mulch, etc.) on top of the pavers?

Congratulations on your new greenhouse. It sounds like you are going to have a very nice set up. I know that you must be so happy about this.

Congrats on the greenhouse! I was just looking at them on the Samsclub website.
