Very pretty...gives me zone envy. I used to have some pink fairy lilies and left them in the ground one cold winter and lost them, so I guess this one would die off as well. Thanks for posting it, anyway...the comments about using it to hybridize with other Zephyranthes is interesting.

Hi, Toxi. I had become somewhat bored by walking my neighborhood everyday. So I visited my favorite nursery for my daily walk and to observe plants that bloom or have color in the fall which I haven't really done much in the past. There are a couple of spots in my yard that neeed some color in the fall. I had noticed a huge clump of blooming plants that were growing in a whiskey barrel when I had been there a week or so ago. They were still in bloom. I thought that they were some kind of a rain lily, but the leaves were round, the flowers very large and the clump very thick and large. I asked what they were and the nuserywoman went with me to see them. Yep, rain lilies she said and said that they didn't have any for sale. I told her that if the see me come in next time with a little hand shovel and a plastic bag that they will know where I am headed. I was kidding her. Over my protests, she reached down, pulled one up and gave it to me. She said that they will form a clump very quickly. All of the guys at this nursery are soooo nice. I have pink ones which bloom on and off all year, but the blooms are not as large. They have multiplied, but not in large clumps. Probably because my beds are heavily mulched and the seeds have difficulty meeting the soil. Thabks for your comments.

How nice that they gave you some!
Sometimes I look for items to extend the season, too. The blooms start in February with crocus and witchhazel, and end in October or November with mums, toad lilies, and asters. Many other plants all spring and summer of course. I have occasionally fantasized about what the yard would look like if everything bloomed simultaneously.... probably like one of those pictures in a catalog! Of course, the rest of the time it sure would be boring.

A couple of my pink rain lillies have just bloomed and I had not noticed them until now. The blooms are much larger than before and have a lot deeper coloring. I guess it is because it is cooler. I wish that they were formimg large clumps, but they pop up in a "here and there" pattern. I too have thought about what it would look like with everything bloomimg at once like the catalogues.
