Saying Goodbye ..

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Took some pix the last days, and thought I'd share some of my beauties.
Into the 20s tonight, this will be history )o; I am always sad to see them go.
This will most likely be all black tomorrow. Always a sad time for me )o;

Since growing cannas and so much a part of my life, I am never quite so happy as when they are like this.
They have a hold in my life. I am always in awe of their strength and magnificence.
Awesome to spend my days in their beauty .. I can't wait to get out early each morning to see.

I am the only 'farmer' on the ridge to grow flowers. The cannas stand magnificent amongst the fields of farm crops, hay, and cattle. First the other farmers laughed at me, Now they come over to see (o: ..ha
But no crop there has quite the beauty of these. lol

I had the whole family out last night digging the brug seedling trees. We brought in 80 in bud I have not seen bloom yet. A shame to bring this far and let die.
It took alot of figuring to get them into the glasshouse )o: But at least now, I will get to see them bloom.
I will be enjoying this winter, for sure.
Simply awesome to see blooming brugs thru the glass when cold and snow all around.

I hope eveyone else is getting their plants in ok.

We have rushed around for two days gettig everything dug and potted, or roof over with tarp to protect from frost. Whew, lot of work, but think it is worth it when everything is in full bloom. Now, maybe life will slow down a wee bit and we will enjoy blooms for another month or so.

Never watered cannas or perrenials all summer here, we got rain, just when we needed it.

That is just breath taking Alice! I'm SO far behind. Were suppose to go down to 36F tonight then warm up for the next two weeks. I might just throw blankets on a lot of the plants. I'm not ready to give it up yet.

We have the same forcast datdog. Sad what one night cold tempst will do )o;
We did blankets, etc. last night. Think frost passed us by, though.
But low 20 and low 30s and higher elevation ..tonight will probably get us )o:

Beautiful cannas Alice. I have not dug mine yet. They have been frosted, so I could dig at any time now. I hope your greenhouse is full of blooms from your seedlings this year. Just having one in the house smells it up so pretty. Then I go into the garage and am almost knocked over by the fragrance. I think my plants can come back outside now for a few days. Lots of work, but I like them well enough to go through it. I hope your weatherman is wrong and you don't get the hard freeze. I know it will soon hit us, but I could use another month of nice weather.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I have never seen such a lovely photo of cannas...especially beautiful in mass like you have them. And with the flag flying. I would frame this one for a reminder all winter ! If you have a full size photo of it, I would be happy to print you out a 8x10 or 11x14 for framing. PM me and I will send you my e-mail address. And I would need your home address. Let me know. It is just beautiful!

great pics of your cannas Alice. They're very pretty.
I think a lot of us are in for an early winter,as we are supposed to get temps down into the 40's within the next few days and that is very unusual for us this early in the season.
