I've Got My First Brug Bloom!!!

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

I came back after the weekend away and found my Brug was popping out! They were still buds when I left. The first brug is Frosted Pink. "Ahelms" sent me these back in June. The second one is Miss Ann. I can't wait to see it finally open all the way!!! I still don't have any blooms on my Cypress Gardens or Ecaudor Pink although they have Y'd alot. I'm not doing anything different with them. Any thoughts?

Congrats, Gardengirl! Ahelms is such a nice person, isn't she? You might want to check your Frosty Pink in the first picture for spider mites. It appears as though you might have a good case of them there. I can't tell you about your brugs that haven't bloomed, although my versis did take quite a bit longer to bloom than my suaves... Enjoy those blooms :) Gretchen

Thanks Gretchen. I wondered why the leave were shrivaling up. I don't see any critters, though. Can I just spray insecticidal soap? I'm hoping the blooms open soon. We're expecting some colder weather this week - down to the high 40's. Thanks again for the tip!

Jeannine, I agree with Gretchen, need to bring out the spray to get rid of those. You don't want to bring them inside.LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Jeannine -- insecticidal soap may do it, plain old water will too. Spider mites drown in any liquid. So a good washing with water or a mixture of 1 tbs Palmolive dish soap; 1 tbs rubbing alcohol; one-gallon of water. Make sure you get them all off. It unfortunately takes a little work...

Ada's right. You don't want them inside, they will infest everything -- fast! Good luck! Please post pix when they bloom!!! Gretchen

You're well on your way to becoming addicted to Brugs! No cure in sight!!

You will be surprised how much better your Frosty Pink will grow when you get rid of the mites. They can sure be a pain.

Looking great! I hope you get all the buds to open for you.

Thanks everyone! I'm going home today and douse those suckers! Forget the kid's homework! This is much more important!! LOL I've got to bring them in tonight too because it's getting down in the 40's at night. I wish my shed was insulated! They'll have to go in the garage.

OK, my baby is getting ready to really open up and I'm going out of town tomorrow until Monday. Waaaaaaa. How long do the blooms last? It is just starting to turn pink. YEAH!
