Black Magic EE.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

I have a very small Black Magic EE. I traded for him and really dont want to lose him. Most folks around here leave their big green EE's in the ground with extra mulch. I'm afraid this small guy might die or rot. Should I pot him and keep him inside with my brug cuttings this winter.

I have NO EE experience. Had one green one last fall and it rotted over the winter. But I had a bengal tiger canna right beside it that did fine ?

I have my black magic ee's in my pond. One year, I brought it in and kept it inside in a pot sitting in a container that had about two inches of water in the bottom. It did okay, but all the leaves turned green. When I took it outside after winter, the leaves turned black again.

Well, that is very interesting. I thought these were not necessarily water plants but land plants that could take water. The taro that I've put in my pond always dies. Too much sun I thought.

I had mine in my pond at one time and it did fine. I moved it the next year to a bed and left it out for the winter and it didn't come back. I did overwinter a small rooted one and I will be bringing it inside this winter. The magic loves the sunlight.

Charlotte I think your ee will be too young to try and leave it out this winter, even though they are supposed to be hardy to z7. I've overwintered many indoors and they will be fine. They are just green through the winter due to lack of sunlight. Black magic thrives with full sun and tons of water outdoors. If something happens to your new baby let me know next spring.

Thank you all, I will pot him and try to overwinter inside ! :)

Glad you started this one as I have onein a pot, in about two inches of water, in my pond, in full sun and it is doing great. Will bring mine in for the winter.
