Looking for moon flowers

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

I am desperately looking for some moon flower seeds. After seeing the one bloom I got I want to plant more. Please anyone, if you have some extra I will either trade or SASE for some.

I have lots of seeds of one that came from a white flower that has a 1.5 inch prickly pod. In the pod was nearly 200 seeds. The plant stands anout 15-18 inches. Not sure this is what you are looking for.

I am looking for the moon flower vine called Ipomoea alba. The flower is about 5" in diameter and very fragrant. I have one that just bloomed on my birthday and it was beautiful. Here is a picture of it

These are hard to get to germinate. I use a pliers and put the large seed in there and gently press until I hear a cracking noise. Then I plant them after the soil is warmed in spring. I still get few results even with this method. I think my zone is just too short for a good show. You will love the scent! It is heavenly and I will walk outdoors late in the pitch dark just to get a whiff of them.
This year I had no luck, though.
Hope they do well for you.

Windy, I am growing some this year and mine have absolutely no scent. Could it be they are a different variety? Mine are a vine also and white. Seed pods are just now starting to form but are not ripe yet.

I have several vines growing, and this is my second year. Last year it was recommended that I soak the seeds overnight in warm water... (warm at first). They swell up a little, and I plant them the next day. I even left some for 3 days, and they started to sprout out. They grow well all summer, and have just started to bloom last month. Right now, they are opening earlier in the evening, and staying open later in the morning.

I think that their scent is a little lighter this year than last, also. They also seem to grow better when trained, or have support vs. just hanging around...

I have a pack of 50 Moon Flower Vine seeds I just bought on eBay marked "Ipomoea Alba - packed for 2004". I'll perhaps use half of them next spring. I'll gladly send you the other half for SASE if you are still looking. I guess they should be good for next year?

I have always grown moonflowers. They do have a scent but you have to be there when they open. as the night goes on the scent fades. if it rains i noticed no scent. its its really hot i have also noticed no scent in some of mine. then on some evenings its overpowering if many are blooming at once.

they are easy to germinate. all i have ever done is those little peat pellets you soak in water and they swell up. i use warm water. put the seed in it. put it in a plastic zip loc baggy leave one little corner open for air put in window and a few days you have plant.

Natasha they should still be viable for next year. just keep them out of moisture and in a dark spot. I have had some seeds grow after 2 years. these things are so hardy.

okay the seeds for the moonflower alba are big white tanish colored seeds. they look like and are a bean.

datura seeds are small and flat. come in many colors for seeds.
