Anyone have frost yet?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I just checked out 15 day forecast and it's going to dip into the low 30's.... Guess it's coming... WAHHHHHHHH I'm so sad and not ready to bring everything in.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

I have had a slight frost in the low areas about a week back. Just a little nip to the plants.
Tuesday night ow 30s and killing frost is forcasted.
I have about 100 big brug seedlings in ground finally in bud I have not seen bloom yet. My mind has been busy trying to decided what to do about this as I want to see them bloom.

I really hate to hear that many of you are now getting cold weather and frost. It seems so quick that the summer has passed for so many. It will be a while before we get cold weather here . . it was 92 yesterday. We are suppose to get a cool front this week but it will probably only drop to the low 80's during the day. Even though it is not cold here, I can see that the plants know that it is fall.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

We had frost last week and this morning we woke up to a very hard frost. Looks like snow! ........... oh sorry, I said that 4 letter word.

We are out in the country without any cement etc... so we get frost a bit sooner than the city areas. It's way too soon for me, but unless I move I guess I have to accept it.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

DH and I potted about 10 brugs that were in the ground with buds & blooms.

Frosted down below. It is to be 28 degrees Tuesday, so..........trying to find room for all, fast!! Hibiscus, Brugs, Passion Flowers. Acckkk, way too soon.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh my goodness! It does seem too early doesn't it. Alice can you rig a tarp up or something? Let me know how you do Gloria. I'm trying to get mine done this week. Thanks brugnanny Yuck tree climber! Frost that looks like snow would put me off the deep end right now.

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

We somehow escaped the frost last night - was predicted to get to 31F. Most of the brugs are on the porch, some came inside because the porch roof isn't tall enough. Thank goodness for the high ceilings inside!

I left a few in the ground that didn't impress me enough to bother digging. Strangely enough, two of these are versicolor apricot & orange, and have not only tolerated the lows in the mid-upper 30's but actually look very vibrant. Haven't so much as yellowed or dropped a leaf. I thought they were the most cold sensitive! I am reconsidering digging & potting...maybe they are trying to tell me something.....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

We had our first frost a couple nights ago. All the brug leaves are black and the coleus looks like it went through a horrible fight. Bananas are limp, but the passiflora made it. I will have to get them in the house soon though. Fortunately, I had worked all day before the frost hit that night and got everything in that I had room for. The rest is history. I have no excuse to not get started on the cleanup now. It has been a bad year for many.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Haven't had frost yet. Actually been very nice for this time of year. I too, Alice , have about 50 brugs in the ground. have been making cuttings of ones that i know I would like to keep, but guess the rest will just have to go. Only a few have bloomed, have lots of buds now .

I just can't put brugs outside much before the middle of May and this year we had early warm weather but can't count on that so didn't put them out before. Guess that's just the way it is in my zone 5 area.

I did pick fresh corn yesterday and still have tomatoes and cucumbers. Donna

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

we had light frost this morning but I had all my little guys in the house so was OK

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

we were supposed to get our first frost last night, luckily I scrambled and everyone helped me move and cover things, luckily we didnt' get that low, think it was 36, but soooon, so now going to wander around and make sure I didnt' miss anything!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh my...its really been such a short season for many of you. We will probably not get our first frost for about six weeks, but like Frannie's garden, mine knows that the shorter days of Autumn are upon us, and many of my plants are starting to slow down. I did haul everything to the GH today to see what is going to fit and what will have to go...A lot more is going to have to go than what I planned on :(

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

all of my seedlings were blackened on top by frost two nights ago...same for the nanas..but all are alive and well so will get them inside now. With 600 plants in pots I'm outta room for anything else!! LOL

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

Our first frost was last night. I had my potted ones in the garage, but the ones that were in the ground were touched by frost, so I've been digging up and saving what I can. Some haven't bloomed yet . I sure would love to live in a warmer climate!

Nope, Not here where I am at..still in the 90's and either cool or hot in the morning...mmm..

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Not yet....starting to feel that chill in the air. Brugs are still blooming and setting more buds. Don't wont to bring them inside.....yet. It's suppose to dip down into the mid-40's by Tuesday night. I probably will throw a couple of sheets over my Brugs to protect their leaves at night and remove the coverings during the day. I'm game for any way I can extend their growing season.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I'm getting the sheets ready just in case.

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

We had light frost yesterday. 99% of the plants are in the garage waiting to get their spot inside. Just have a few outside but will need to get them in by tonight since we might get down in the 30's too. Arrrg!, I'm not ready for this yet!

Gemila

hard frost tonight!! - digging and potting like mad - phew, this is tiring. I have three huge brugs that I don't think I can even lift - will need to cover those until I get a brain storm as to what to do with them. Man , this is work!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Haven't had any frost as of yet and surely don't want any. LOL It's supposed to get down to 45 about mid week. I hate it.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

No frost, it was 90 yesterday. I'm looking forward to cooler temps this fall though I don't want to see frost ever!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Need some advice quick. Frost advisory for tomorrow. Leave them out or bring them in? It's some cold snap that is coming through. What is a girl to do? After tomorrow were suppose to have nice temps for about 10 days or so....

better bring them in, or be sorry *S*

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Cala -- your cooler temps won't be MUCH cooler... I seem to remember a frost in the Valley a couple of years ago, but I don't think it happens very often -- you lucky girl! :)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Gretchen, we got down to 39 for a few hours last February. I was a bit worried! I live in Bayview so we do get the benefit of the ocean breeze(plus the salt that goes with it, lol) and stay a bit cooler in summer and a bit warmer in winter. The weirdest thing though, in spring Brownsville will warm up faster than we do!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Cala I'm so happy that your in a frost free place. My husband just turned down a job in Boca Ratan I'm afraid that was my last hope for a warm place to live. I don't care for that area of FL and couldn't imagine living there. Small- small- small lots and very expensive housing. Who wants to live in Fl and not be able to garden? Not to mention many of the sub division had certain rules you had to follow for landscaping.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

We could have moved to El Paso for Westinghouse. I said "no way"!. Just imagine, me as a plant lover, in that God forsaken place, hot, dry, no rain...........

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Gloria your too funny! I just picture you out there with a bonnet on and a watering can. LOL....

Syracuse, NY

hi datdog last night it went down to 36 and a high of 49 today, but by thursday it will be back up in the seventies for a couple of days. i have a plant room down cellar with extra heat and grow lights but my eyes are bigger than my stomach i have still so many brugs outdoors that will have to go by the wayside. i gues i learned my leson and be more choosy what i keep. bob

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Bob at 36 did you have much damage outside?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Wrong pic of me Kristi, never wear a hat......so my hair is becoming blonde(ahem) from the hot SUN!!

Did all my fall work in 2 days time, dang, let winter come!! Everything I dug up and potted, kept its' buds and blooms, didn't even know they have been uprooted.

Would you believe..........it didn't freeze.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Cala -- that's interesting. Maybe because its urban? I think we're going to have an earlier, cooler and longer winter this year. I hope I'm wrong!

Hibiscus -- you certainly didn't miss out when it came to El Paso...ugh, I can't imagine living there!

Edited to add -- we're just starting our rainy season here.
