Datura - Green Seed Pods Popping Open

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Yesterday, I saw the lower half of a seed ball on the ground with seeds scattered everywhere and it scared me really bad since I have dogs!! None of them got sick. This afternoon another pod was split, then I started looking and found they all are splitting. None of these pods have turned brown/black like I thought they are suppose to do. The inside is still fluffy white around the shell and center portion. This is my first Datura, do I have this seed pod thing all wrong?

Judy, Datura pods will pop open like this. Slip you a knee hi panty hose over the pods to catch the seeds.

Thank you!!! Everything I read said they dried on the plant and had to be popped open to collect the seeds. I didn't have knee hight so tried using sections of regular hose.... too funny for words!!! It didn't work, I'll figure out something tomorrow.

Judy, the sections of panty hose should work. Just so you have them around the seed pod to catch the seeds.

So I'm going to have to admit that I have legs the size of toothpicks and wear semi-support hose. When I tried to stretch a section over a seed pod it caused it to collapsed. lol lol Just call me Lucy (as in I love Lucy!!)

I only have the one Hindu and seeds for a double white. Do you know anyone who would want to trade me other Datura seeds for unknown iris? http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/458835/
