Welcome to the Garden Todd! I had a look at the threads you started and am very impressed with the plants you have growing......your Maples, Japanese Irises, etc. are a wonder to behold. :) Do you do any trading?

Hi and Welcome Todd. Lots of nice people here.

Hey there...welcome Todd! Elaine

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

Thanks everyone, glad to be on-board. I've been posting pics for a while but recently decided to actually subscribe. It's amazing how many questions and comments I've gotten since then. This really is an interactive group...great to see! In regards to trading, we are not allowed to export live plants from Newfoundland because we have golden nematode in our soil. The only thing I can trade are seeds. I'm actually the chair person of the Newfoundland Rock Garden Society so I regularly collect seeds to distribute among our members. I hope to put some eastern Canadian imput into the group and show what we can grow on this so-called rock. I've placed a picture of my garden for you to peruse.

Happy to have you join us Todd. Is that whitish flowered plant in the middle sysrichium or a shrub? Very nice garden. I like what you've done with the chain-link fence.

What do you have to do about the golden nematode problem? How does it affect your plants? I don't want to overwhelm you with questions so that's all for now. But watch out for later.

Golden nematode only affects potatoes. Meanwhile, the varieties we grow locally are nematode resistent, so in reality, nematode is only a problem for mainland varieties of potatoes, hence why we cannot ship plants off the island...just in case the soil should come in contact with a potato farmer.

The cream shrub in the middle of the picture is a Cytisus X kewenensis.

Given your lovely collection of ensata that is heartbreaking news! I love the colors/textures in your garden and how nice it is to see grass that looks fresh and green. :D

Do you have a list of seeds that you collect?

Beautiful garden Todd, especially your maple and welcome to the Canadian forum.

Lovely garden!

Todd, I saw your picture in the Plantsdatabase. Thanks for all the info. You like to push the zone limits a bit too? I guess most of us do. I think 'if only I lived in zone 5 I could grow so many more choice plants and shrubs'. I know if I lived in zone 5 I'd be saying 'if only I lived in zone 7'. Ahhh well....

Todd, I just saw this thread - welcome to the Canadian Trading forum. Sometimes there is even some trading done here! LOL... Your garden looks just gorgeous, as do your photos on the PDB. Thanks for posting so many great pictures.

Thanks for the welcoming. Here's a pic of my azalea bed just as the season is starting. I grow a lot of alpines, so I try to blend them in wherever I can.
