Aeschynanthus longicaulis

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

This is one of my favorite gesneriads. Some people think it's boring and ugly, but I think the pattern on the leaves is just stunning. The flowers are "drab" but I like how they are inconspicuous. It only took one year for it to go from a 5 inch cutting to what it is now.

I added more pictures to the PDB. http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/77824/index.html

That a very interesting leaf pattern and I love it's markings. I have seen it at Lowe's in baskets but they were pricey and I already had a basketful.lol

I luv it Keyring. I have one to. There is another one that looks similiar to it but brighter flowers.

Keyring,
I agree the leaves are very pretty. It is not a boring plant at all.

I just bought a Black Pagoda today and I can't tell the difference between it and Keyring's picture. I think the leaves are very interesting and if it doesn't flower I won't mind. I think it's pretty. I also got a stunning goldfish plant with it.

Can these two plants share the same window and be happy together? They should both be fine in winter by the cool-to-touch but not drafty window, but from what I've read so far, the Black Pagoda needs more moisture and likes more light to flower than the goldfish plant but they both like humidity and about the same temps. Does that sound right?

There is some Black Pagoda info here: http://gesneriads.ca/aeschy05.htm When it flowers, the difference from longicaulis should be obvious. I think you are correct on the culture for the two - I'm lazy and treat them about the same.

Thanks!
