I don't know what to do with my brugs. Can you guys help me please? I don't have a green house yet and mine have buds on them still. It's going down in the 30's here and it may freeze on Tuesday night. Do I just take the loss of the buds and put them in the basement to sleep? I have a room that has a small window that I could keep them in but they won't get enough light. I don't have a very sunny window to keep them all by but I do have grow lights. What should I do? I just can't believe it's gonna freeze already, it's just not fair, lol....
Help me with my babies please...
I agree, I am just getting organized for summer and it is over! I would take it and put it in in your brightest room to see if the buds will stay on long enough to bloom. Sometimes they fall off when you move the plant.
Also I have seen people take their plants and move them inside just for the night, and take them back out during the day until they bloom.
Then when done blooming they let them go dormant. Good luck.
Thank Kell for responding. So what do I need to do to make them go dormant? DO I have to cut them back? I am so clueless about brugs but once I smelled a bloom, I got hooked... BRugs don't like temps below 45 is that right?
Versicolors don't like the cooler temps, but the others can handle it. I had brugs last year that frosted bad in the garden but the buds went ahead and opened for me and they put on new growth. I was so glad because I had some seedlings that I had not seen bloom before. To make your brug go dormant, just put it in a dark place and only give it enough water over the winter to keep it alive, but not wet. Cool would be good too. I have a friend who lives in a mobile home. Of course, no basement. She puts her brug in a dark closet and only waters when necessary. Every year it blooms well for her. I wouldn't cut it back if you have room to keep it in one piece.
brugie what about the seedlings, should they still be kept in the light, in a warm room, or a cool room
Seedlings that haven't developed a pot full of roots and that don't have some bark on them should remain growing. I guess I'm saying that if you just started them this summer or fall, keep them growing. The ones that I started in Feb. will remain growing but I'll slow them down by not giving them a lot of light or warm temps.
