Know what I am..

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

I have had this plant for years brought it with me from Texas and about lost it years ago and my mother brought it back but it is looking so bad lately with hail damage and a small frost got it last winter before I could get it in..
I am wanting to see what I can do to get it back healthy again, I know it is out grown it's pot but can you cut the stalked back down to a manageable height..

Here is another I don't know what it is..I love the look of this plant and does well outside in the summer, but does not do so good in the house in the winter as it drops a lot of leaves.

Thanks

If you look close at the first one,I believe you will see where it was cut back before,I am not sure what time of year this is done, very nice plants you have.
On the second one,you may need to mist more when you bring them in,I have never been able to bring in plants without some leaf drop.

that first one looks like a yucca, they root easy,I had one that I chopped into 10 pieces and they all rooted .
the sheffilara(sp?) can be chopped way back too and will came back great

thanks I did want to cut off the taller two down to where the others have branched out but when is a good time of year to do this and how??.. It just seems like since the last frost all the new leaves are so far up the stalk and nothing in between. My son would have been the one that cut any off when it was taken back out this past spring, the frost had gotten to it pretty.
I just did not want to lose it after my mom babied it after I moved it here and makes the plant 9 yrs old..

Thanks for your help
