Nice to be home

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

We were away for 9 days, and had a nice time, but it's nice to get home, to your own bed and comforts (like a computer that does crash every time you use it.) Mostly we stayed at my folks, rested and read books. Just a relaxing holiday. One day we went up to met with Brugcrazy. Thanks for having us, your yard is to die for, the gardens are beautiful, and probably a full time job. The cuttigns are all looking well, thanks again. I hope Oscar is well. We stopped at a few nurseries, and found one that had lots of brug allee trees, and a decent price, but all the same tree, so passed on this tempting offer. (where am I going to put the ones I have?) We came home to lots of brugs blooming, I posted on the Brug forum http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/460089/ I hope that all are well.

I'm glad to hear you had a restful/relaxing holiday and arrived home to a wonderful treat Linda! I took a peek this afternoon at your Brugmansias and they look wonderful. I imagine everyone in your neighborhood is trying to track down where the exotic scent is coming from. :)

Wow, very nice blooms. Wish I had room to grow a few of those. Hope you are well rested after your holiday.

Thanks you guys, I hope you make it through the next few days with the weather.

I heard it's winding and cold tonight for you both.

I'm trying to think how I'm going to arrange all the plants on the deck. That's where I'm going to over winter them. It's covered and almost closed in. But I"m already running out of space.

Yes, I'm rested, and have just read a few books, now back to everyday chores.

It is getting downright chilly......I hope the forecasted snow stays up around the Saskatoon/Battleford's area.

Gorgeous shots, Linda. I'm new to brugs, but if anything would draw me in, it would be that frosty! That sure is cute. What a nice way to come home.

We have thick, thick fog here this morning - one of my friends in a lower-lying area had frost the night before last, but nothing at our house yet. It was +9 this morning. Our Boston ferns have come inside for the winter, however - it's definitely not fern weather out there! Now we're just waiting for the first frost before picking the last of the carrots - ours always seem to taste a bit better after a freeze.

Welcome home!

It was great to meet you both. Oscar misses you already. LOL. For those of you that don't know Oscar, he's an 78 lb. boxer who thinks he's a lapdog.

Very beautifil. Lilipon.

I have a question for you.
Do you keep all your brugs in green house? Do you plant some outside?

Oh, I love your Oscar. We had a boxer named Fritz when I was a kid. Took him with me after I married. But he was about half the size of Oscar.

Oscar is a lovely guy. He really is a sucker for a new face. He was all over us, and it was hard not to be sucker in to those big brown eyes. I'd never realised that boxers were so gentle and loveing. He's a great lap dog.

HI MG.

Just wondering about your squash photo.
How did you draw name on them? Did you scratch when they are young?
They are very intresting.

I had a lot of green, yellow zucchini and kabocha buttercup pumpkin.
My folks are getting sick of eating now.

Yumiko my Brugs are all down in my basement this year.......sulking under the florescent lights (it takes them a while to adjust).

Hi Yumiko

when the squash are young, use something sharp to scratch the surface, not too deep at all. The name formed as a scar where it was cut. You can scratch any design you wish, we just stick to family names.

Yumiko, next time I go through Naniamo, and have some time to spare, I'll let you know.

We do this with pumpkins using the kids names so they all have personalized jack o lanterns come hallowe'en. It's a big hit - but one cautionary note from the slightly dislexic (sp?) and spatially disoriented - you have to consider where the stem end is. My first efforts were upsidedown. Fortunately the kids were young enough that it didn't matter.

Hi MG, jagonjune

Parsonalized, very good idea!
I just remembered some melons in Japan.
Some of the canteloupe melon are ridiculously expensive there.
They often use as gift. For wedding or celebration they use melon
written "kotobuki" means celebration, cogratulation.
