Ok let me first start out by saying my family moved from the country when I was very young so I am a city girl, dh is not but he isn't here right now and I can't call him at work :). One of my goats just had a baby. Her and her companion were given to me by an elderly lady that couldn't take care of them anymore. She is about 4 years old and this is her first baby. We have always had sheep in the past and they never were a problem. When they were ready to give birth they would stay in the barn and everything came natural to them (so it seemed). Well Ginger (the goat) didn't stay in the barn but went way out in the field. I just happened to look out the window and saw my billy ramming her into the fence so I went running out there and made him leave her alone and the next thing you know I saw that the baby was on it's way out. I ran back to the house to turn off the stove and get a towel and when I was going back out there Billy was trying to ride her. First of all I have never wanted to kill an animal before but this really made mad. I don't understand why he is acting like that, is it natural? He has always seemed a little weird but this is just wrong. Well I stayed out there and mamma started cleaning the baby but won't let him eat. He tries but every time he gets close she moves away. After a couple of hours I had to make myself come inside but I'm afraid either billy is going to kill the baby or the mamma just won't take care of it.
Am I being to sensitive about this? Does this all sound normal? I tried to get the mamma in the barn but she acts like she is so tired and just won't come, I think she might be going to have another one but I would have thought that would have already happened by now. I also tried to get billy in the barn but he has a one track mind and won't go.
I hope this makes sense and I'm not sure what I'm really asking here but I'm worried and there is no one around to help :O) thanks for any advise.
