Hi everyone. I joined DG about three weeks ago, but we've been busy planting, so I'm late to introduce myself. We live in Bonsall, California -- in San Diego County between Oceanside and Fallbrook if that helps. :-) We moved in last spring and are now starting to plant California natives on the slopes around the house. We have a lot more 'dirt' than we wanted, so natives seemed like the sensible thing to do and we are enjoying choosing and planting many varieties. I've been able to look up a lot of the plants on DG and get a better idea of what they will look like. What a great site!
Cheers,
Kathleen

Welcome from Iowa.
Thanks very much for the welcome messages.
Here is one picture taken the day before planting. My DH and a friend built the ramada. We have a wisteria (one of our few non-natives) and two California grapevines (vitus californica "Rogers Red") planted to cover the top. The grape leaves turn red in fall and are quite pretty.
Janice, we indeed might meet up at Las Pilitas. We are just a few miles away and all our plants have come from there. Val has been very helpful.
Brugie, I really have to go visit the appropriate forum and find out just what a brugmansia is! One of the things I love about this forum -- one learns so much.
Cheers,
Kathleen
Your location should be a good one for growing brugmansia. Hope to see you in the brug forum one day showing your brug pictures. LOL!
Warning: What Brugie didn't tell you is, both Dave's and Burgs are addictive

Kathleen, welcome from Canada! Isn't this a great site? Thanks for posting your picture; it's always so interesting to see other people's yards & neighbourhoods, especially when they're really different from your own area. Looking forward to seeing more pictures as your planting gets going!

Welcome to Dave's and just to prove it's a small world I have a coupla plants in my garden that came from Las Pilitas.
Went buying there with my DD aka Crystalspin and though I had to tote them all the way back to Utah it was worth it.
See you 'round the forums and maybe at a mini RU next spring when I'm out there at 'spin's house. ~Blooms
Hi Blooms. Yes, it is a small world at times, isn't it? Glad you enjoyed your plants from LP.
The day we picked up our plants there, one of the ancient sycamores behind the 'office' dropped a bough. It was like a bomb going off and we all ducked. Luckily, there was no damage to the structure or to the plants -- just a couple of squashed ones growing in the ground. I love just going through the gate, because there are fragrant ceanothus close by and the smell is delicious.
Thanks for the welcome.
Kathleen
Hello fellow native plant lover and welcome!
Thanks Equilibrium! We really came to native plants through desperation, but now we're hooked. We were looking for some way to landscape that wouldn't involve a lot of work down the line and also needed drought tolerant plants. Luckily we found some people with good information.
