Our second Fuyu this fall. We ate the first in the yard.

Oh, how my taste buds water at the sight! This is our tree's 1st year to bear fruit. It was loaded and lost many fruit as time progressed but the 13 or so that remain seem to be progressing well. My only hope is that I'll beat the squirrels, possums, and raccoons to the ripe fruit.

We have had to pull them a few days early because Mocking birds make a hole in one side of the fruit when it becomes soft. We place them on paper towels in a dark cupboard until they are soft. They are also good while still crisp, but we prefer soft.

Thanks for the advise, trois. I hadn't given thought to the Mockingbirds although I did wonder if deer would eat the ripe fruit. I might never get to taste the fruit from our tree!

Critters have ways of finding good stuff. I think they watch us to see what we favor.

HaHa, that reminds me of the fruit flies which disappear when they see our eyes lock onto them for the kill.

I have noticed that also. I once saw one dive into a glass of milk and stay under for some time. It didn't help him though.
The garbage disposal works wonders.
