Hi KMAC

lucked out over here, bought a plant of this about 10 years ago in Perth, Western Australia, named as Salvia brilliantissima.
Thought the name was dodgy, but am glad to see confirmation of its true name and a great photo.
We are spoilt over here, it grows well outside and is starting to flower beautifully

Hi Gary

Thanks, that is very interesting. How big is your Brillantaisia ulugurica now you've had it for ten years?

Nowra, Australia(Zone 10a)

Oh, only a small clump of about 1 metre square ( say 10 sq feet)
Sometimes it's too dry for it and the frosts knock ot down every year, no worse than about -2 celcius mostly.
I had it in another garden also but had to move, that had better soil and a watering system, and grew all along the back fence, to around 2 meters tall and the same wide for each plant.
Once again, a good hard prune was needed to keep it manageable.
I'm now planting it in a new garden which will be sheltered but cooler, and hope to establish it before winter sets in in about 4 months time
Gary
