This happens!
Whats a poor gardner to do?
I was going to let my plumerias go dormant this winter,so they wouldn't flower during the winter, and save them for next summer, for when they flower during the winter, like last year,I get no flowers at all thru the summer.

i've pulled them up when the flower was like that and they will go dormant then come spring it will bloom right away,

Thanks,fg21,do you leave them un potted, and don't water until you replant in spring again?

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

yes, i wash off the roots and trim them up, cut off the leaves, i do my cutting too, let dry and put in a paper bag and stick in the closet. if you have them in pots you can just put the pots somewhere it won't freeze and don't water until spring. i find if they aren't in the pots it takes less room to store.

I have several about 12 inches high in 6 inch pots. This is my first year with them. I was planning to put them in the gh with my brugs for the winter. Would it be better to let them go completely dormant (like under the house)?

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

i had a small one like that and kept it going in the gh for the winter. it didn't get maybe 2" of growth. when spring came i repotted it and it took off. it is your choice just don't give it as much water because you run the chance of it rotting.

make it last to be dug!!! ;)

I never seen such great tropicals and you and root are in Kansas-what the heck!

Thanks Farmgirl,I think unpotted is the way I will go,under the house,I want blooms during summer more than wintertime.
Notmartha, yep the bananas and plumies will be the last to be dug,say to you let your leaves yellow and fall off,or cut or pull your leaves on the plumerias.

I've got flower buds on my plumie now too!!! It's the first flower for it, have only had the plant for about a year... fortunately it is in a pot so it can moved into the greenhouse without being disturbed. I must see the flowers, LOL!!!!!! Maybe next year I'll let mine go dormant for winter too so I can get flowers for the summer.
