Here's four pics of P. serrato-digitata taken from the roof of my house, going left to right because it won't all fit in one picture.
I don't yet know how I'm gonna cover this one up when it gets cold. There's no way I'm ever gonna unravel it to move it, so I'm thinking of attaching plastic to the roof, and then over the vine & trellis, and over the chain link fence. My side yard here is only around 10-12 feet by 18 or so, so I think it's doable. Kinda like a cheapo temporary greenhouse lol.
Passiflora serrato-digitata... from my roof
Have you tried row covers? I got some for this year, several of my succulents and cactus get frost burned or just plain freeze, so I got some of those row covers to try them out this winter. I figure if they work with the strawberry fields here, they should work with other plants too.
Edited to say: beautiful vines you have there and love your garden.

Indigoez-
I see lots of good stuff in your garden! Is that P. Ricasiolana, or campsis radicans I see in there?
Hey Gourdy!
That is what I'm going to do, too! If the people up North can use it to extend their zone, why can't we, right? I want it mainly for my citrus, and tropical fruits...
Who did you order yours from? I have several catalogs that have them, but cannot find them here locally.
seedpicker, I got them at GardensAlive when they had their coupons, it was like just paying for the shipping. In fact I just deleted some e-mails from them last week. I should have saved them, they were extending their coupon sale. I have two extra ones if you want them... finally, I have something for you..

Silly, that coupon is for trees!....
I get their emails, and catalogs, too. Just deleted that one today, as a matter of fact! lol...
I have a certificate voucher for them. I'll wait until they send their next catalog with a discount sticker on the front, and order it then.
That does help, thanks! I like that company, and I'm sure no one else would have it much cheaper. I already need to order some ladybugs and knat stuff(for the greenhouse) from them, anyway...
Is this your first year with row covers, too? I am interested in whether or not they really help, and to what degree...

Yeah, but the coupons I was talking about are the ones attached to their catalogs.. This will be my first year with them.. I plan to use them also on my gourd seedlings next year, the darn rabbits ate my seedlings this year. All I got was two apple gourds and one melon. lol.. I have big plans for this spring (critters watch out)..!!!
I've seem them use the row covers over strawberry patches here and everything looks green under there, of course, that is only what I see from the highway. I believe plain old bed sheets will work too.
edited: hopefully this is still there.. this is the link with a 20.00 certificate off of any 40.00 purchase.
the link did not work..
edited and took the link off.

Thanks for trying. I'm just going to keep a lookout for the next catalog, and use the coupon that comes on it...I may have one saved...got to look through my magazine pile.

Indigoez, your garden is beautiful! Your Passiflora looks very happy. I've heard that P. serrato-digitata flowers have a wonderful fragrance. My vine is still pretty small yet. I agree that throwing some plastic or a sheet over the vine would work, but you have to make sure that you remove it during the day so that the sun does not fry it.
Seedpicker, Clare, that's only the side yard... I have everything except the thin strip on the north side by the street planted. Sometime over the weekend I may post pics of the whole thing if I have time.
Indigoez-I KNEW you had more dirt to dig in than that! lol...vine lovers need lots of space!
I was trying to identify what you had in there...is that a orange trumpet vine, or the pink one?
My pink one has buds on it, right now. I can't wait! They smell so good!
-seedpicker_TX
It's the pink trumpet vine, Podranea ricasoliana. Also in the pictures (growing with the trumpet vine) is an apple gourd vine (a gift from a friend at work who wants gourds lol), and the yellow flowering thing the digitata is growing over is a cassia (or senna) alata.
Doesn't look like they'll be any pictures of the rest of my empire today, too rainy:-(
