I live near Santa Rosa wich is approx 50 miles North of San Francisco. I put out my first feeder a couple months ago and I have had several hummers feeding. I am in zone 9 and was wondering if the hummers will leave the area for the winter or am I in a warm enough area that they will stay around. I don't know their migrating habits. Could someone enlighten me?

Will my hummers leave for winter?
Hi,
I'm not sure about hummers in your area, George, but here is a great website with lots of info on migration of all kinds of birds and monarch butterflies.

another good website is hunmmingbirds.net which has links to a guy who tracks rufous hummingbirds which I think are more common on your coast.
Good luck,
Cindy
My Dad lives in Napa and the hummers take a hike for the winter. They do not like cold frosty mornings.
George, If you are in 9a, maybe the hummingbirds will stay. I live in Perris, CA (halfway between LA and San Diego) and our hummingbirds stay year round. I will ask at another source if your hummingbirds will stay. Good Luck!
George, last year the neighbor had her feeder out during the winter and we had a couple of Anna's stay around. Cotati.
This year I will keep our feeder up year round...we have Anna's right now and possibly another variety, so hard to distinguish. I planted the yard with hummer plants the last two years.
You are the diner that doesn't close. You may get more ! I got 3 more Salvias today and got attacked while I was shooting shots of them and this new guy is jammin all over the waverly(white Salvia) I think I'll see more. They were all over the nurserys last year here You may be the food for them. Don't despair California hummers don't really migrate except to find food. If you have it they will hang around so keep your feeder out. I plan on plants too. This was at 6:30 tonight.
You lucky dogs! BTW, your newest Salvia (white) means I can have a red, white, blue combo next year.
