Pompus Grass?

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm wanting the grass that has the huge plumes on it. Is this pompus grass.? I will pay or maybe trade if I have anything you want.

Tina

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Pampas grass has the beautiful tall plumes....razor sharp leaves, and gets HUGE.
I can dig you a clump if you can't find it local....these are so large and so root heavy, that shipping would NOT be cheap. :-) You might be better off finding it some place local if at all possible.
Let me know.................

edited for spelling typos :-)

Tina,

Check at the nursery next to where you work. I thought I saw one there. Or maybe it was the nursery that has the golf carts going towards Peavine.

I hope you enjoyed the KY RU.

Linda, I did check at the one beside us. No luck. I will try the other. I want 2 clumps at each side of my drive way. I think its beautiful!!

Thanks
Tina

Thanks for the offer Mark. I may have to pay the price for beauty ;)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

You just let me know Tina.....my axe and shovel are at your disposal. :-)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

How ya doing at finding any of this Tina? Should I sharpen up my spade shovel and get to digging?

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Can't find the kind I want Mark. I'm wanting the huge plumes and all of it around here is spindley looking. I guess you could go ahead and dig me some. Shipping shouldn't be over 20$ or so. I would appreciate it. Always means more getting it from someone you know anyway;)

NEW CUYAMA, CA

I did a trade awhile back and I got two smaller clumps in the mail, so I think you could dig and cut acouple smaller clumps to be cheaper to mail for you both...........maybe!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I will get to digging tis weekend if weather holds.....I'll let ya know Tina.

Thanks Marc

It takes a couple of years for it to get as big as you want it. They will all look small at the nursery's in five gallon pots. The more you water them, the bigger they get. Don't give up on those small ones. If you put them in now, they should be a good size come spring.

Got WAY to busy this weekend to get around to hacking at the Pampas grass Tina. I'll try again this or tomorrow evening. You want two clumps right?

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks
Tina

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Well I had a very dificult patient last evening so didn't get home till after dark....so I will attempt to hack at it this afternoon.

Okay Tina, I have your clumps dug.....and I have the cuts to prove it. I had forgotten how much I HATE pampas grass.
Make sure you plant it somewhere where you never have to brush against it....the blades are just that, blades and as sharp as knives.
I'll get it sent off to you on Monday next.......I don't want it/them sitting in a post office any longer than it has to.

Oh Marc I'm sorry!! I had no idea you'd get hurt in the process. Thanks so very much for your help and generosity. You are a wonderful man(no matter what your wife says;)

Oh no worries Tina....pain and blood letting are part of gardening, at least for me :-p

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Your clumps went out in the mail this afternoon. You should have them by Tuesday.
If I were you I'ld plan on keeping them potted up and out of direct "winter" till Spring....unless you think there's time for them to grow in and survive the freeze.
Anyway, here they come................... :-)

Hi Tina, The Pampas grass I have looks like the picture I added. I grew them from seeds which were very easy. Would you be interested in seeds?

Well Tina I wanted to gear you in the right direction to where I purchased mine. They germinated on Vermiculite for me. But I'm sure seed starting soil will be good for you. I eneded up giving away 25 plants. I sure wish I had knew you earlier this year...Soooo sorry. But here's the info.
The variety is called: Cortaderia selloana rosea

Hey Tina,
This is Jackie, Joci's mom. I have a couple hundred of those seeds, pink and white both. I bought them to get starter plants to sell. They are still packed from the move, but I would be happy to share some with you when I dig them out. Let Joci know if you want a few and I'll set them aside for ya.
