Little baby nanas!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I have 6 hands now, with more baby nanas under the petals. Wonder how many it will make before the bloom bends over and touches the ground? This is on the Dwarf Cavendish, the bloom is HUGE!

Oh my gosh, I hope mine will bloom. I've never seen a banana bloom in person. Those little nanas look good already.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

That is too cool. WTG Susie.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Look at them all!!!!
I forgot to ask how old it was when it bloomed
Mine is almost 6 foot now and its 2 years old........

The trunk on this one is about 5ft, the leaves make it taller. I bought it this past January or Feb. in a gallon pot. It is planted by the pool in a mostly sandy mixture. I give it a variety of fertilize, whatever I'm using that day on everything else is what the nanas get.

I'm jealous! ;)

Hee hee Root, you might have bigger brugs and more blooms, but I got nanas!
MzM, I think they take about 180 days to ripen, so they should be ripe in Feb or March. We will be having springtime about then, so come on over!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

That is too cool to grow your own bananas. I wonder if they will taste better than the store bought ones.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I just moved mine all in the GH
When we got the remnants of the hurricane (not sure which one, there are too many to keep straight...) It had mangled all the leaves, which makes me wonder if the nanas will EVER rippen, cause they are all broken and laying down the sides. There is a good side to it though...
It fit in the GH without hitting the ceiling...LOL

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh wow Susie!! Thats neat! Are you getting the hang of the tropical zone? Im so happy things grow so well for you!
CC! Im sorry!! YUCK! But, you have the right attitude! I hope they hang on for you.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You have bananas also CC in your low zone? I have a HUGE banana and I never get fruit!

Floresville, TX(Zone 9a)

Congrats Cala:-) I've only seen one banana bloom here, and that was several years ago. There's a small town type supermarket that has some growing in their flowerbeds, and they ended up making several bunches of fruit, but it's never happened again. Was cool to see them at least once though:-)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Thanks guys! I've only had ornamental bananas before and the fruit didn't stay on long enough to get ripe so I'm excited about these. I counted 8 bunches/hands with 10-14 bananas per hand.
CC, is it the leaves that are torn up or the whole stalk? If they are not damaged, the bananas should keep growing since you brought them inside the gh.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

here's a picture
I just went out to the GH to take it
do you think they're gunna rippen?

The one pup's leaves are almost up to the nanas......

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Awesome!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh CC, yours are so adorable baby nanas! I hope they make it!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

They look like they're doing fine. The leaves are bent down pretty bad, but they are still green and that's good.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

It would figure this one was damaged
All the others were just fine......
I want nanas in the worst way...
silly, I know

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can send you some. They are running about 59 cents a pound.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

You so funny Kell......
