Interesting. The insect looks (to me) more like a preying mantis than a grasshopper.

Yes, we figured that....I was just having a brain freeze, it was funny- I knew it wasn't a "giant grasshopper" but couldn't think of what it actually was!

Great picture! My plant has different leaves, but the new blooms look just likt your PrayingMantis. Does the fruit on your plant have spikes? P.S. What else are you growing in your garden that attracts praying mantises?

My mistake for sending the last pic- it was the stemof the plant that went from purple to wood throughout this summer season. Here is the spike fruit....wish I could send more than 1 pic at a time.
