After doing a lot of research on the web, it seems no one can agree on how much sun this Alocasia prefers. Half the sites I went to said can handle full sun while others listed it as preferring partial sun to shade. I took the picture right after I misted it; the leaves are very velvety and not shiny once they are dry. How often should I mist it. I've been misting it once daily in the evening.
One more question. When I purchased this plant at a local nursery, there were two plants with a total of about 5 leaves. Now two months later, there are six plants and many more leaves. Is this normal? I've been giving it plenty of water as well as feeding it every two weeks with a diluted fertilizer solution.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I want to take good care of the beautiful plant.
how much sun do Alocasia micholitziana 'Green Velvet' prefer
This sure looks like Frydek,I am running it in good shade, dappled sun,can you snap a pic of the stems?
Great looking specimen. Mine is in dappled shade all day and coming inside this week for the winter.
I've also wondered if this plant is actually a Frydek. The tag at the nursery just said "velvet" alocasia. The leaves are slightly velvety with no shine on them. After spending two days in a south-facing window, it seems to be doing okay.
Hmmm? My Frydek has slight speckling on the stems.
I took a close look at the stems and they are slightly speckled with dark green , but I had to look very closely to see this. Any chance you could send me a picture of your frydek?

Root, it does look a lot like Frydek doesn't it?
