funny thing happened today

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I saw this old man coming up to my door that I had not seen before. When I opened the door it turns out that he is watching his son-in-law and daughter's two dogs while they are away.
He asked me if I had seen one of the dogs as he knew there were two of them and only one was in the yard.
I pointed to the other neighbor's house and told him it was over there tied to their deck. They have a doggie door for their dog and I imagine they had to tie him there so he would not come inside. My dogs would have had a fit had another dog crawled under the fence into our yard. Their dog just acted like it was all ok with him. LOL
Then the funny part was when he said he had never seen it and thought maybe one of the dogs in my back yard was it! LOL I told my husband I should have sent Maggie home with him. Could you see the look on their face when they come home and my dog is being kept by his in laws? I asked him what their names were and he did not even know. I call them Ruff and Reddy one is red and the other I just call ruff to go with the Reddy.
He had retrieved the dog, but now it is loose again. This time it was just loose but not in anyone's backyard. I fed him and put him back in his own yard. Do not know how long he will stay, though. I would take him in for a while, but he is an alpha and I have my own pack. I do not think they want another "boss" around.
We had been grocery shopping and he came into the garage with us. After we emptied the trunk I told my husband to just let him alone and when I closed the garage door he would probably just run out. He kept triggering the safety and sending the door back up! Oh the woes of a brainless pup! LOL
He finally went out and the door went down.
I hope he stays in his yard tonight. It is a quiet cul de sac but it only takes one car to kill him or injure him.I sure would hate to see him dead in the street one day.
