I agree, where did you get it? Were their several? I am to presume your photo was not of a "little" person.
I have a great childrens project I'll post on the craft forum for pine cones. If this is you, you ought to post this photo on your home page. Looks like you were on a good hike. Thanks for sharing.

The pinecone was from the Los Padres National Forest (Santa Barbara County, California). There were other Coulter pine cones around, but it isn't like the place is littered with them and some get damaged when they fall. That is me as a full-grown adult (5ft 5in) but the picture was taken 12 years ago and I don't look much like that anymore.

So these are bigger than those redwood tree cones? I think redwoods make cones....?

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

CaptMicha The redwood is in the northern part of the state and the cones on it are rather small . The Giant Sequoia (Sequoia gigantea) has a cone about the size of an egg, and the Coastal Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) has a cone about 1/4 that size. We beat Texas with the largest tree and the oldest tree. The pines definitely have the biggest cones.
Kelli - nice photo. I don't think I have ever seen a Coulter - guess I have to go somewhere other than Disneyland when I visit the southern part of our state.

Does anyone know if the weeping Sequoia has pine cones. This summer I has a large one put in my front yard and a little shorter one put in my back yard. I think they are so pretty and have a beautiful irregular growing habit.

Those on the left are giant sequoia cones and those on the right are redwood cones.

Thanks Kelli......I'm sort of a newbe on this, but is my weeping sequoia the same as either of those you mentioned.

The weeping sequoia is a cultivar of the giant sequoia. I would assume that it would make cones.

Kelli-I absolutely love that picture!!! What a pine cone!!! I'd love to see them growing on the tree. My husband and I pick up hundreds of pine cones from the white pines, loblolly pines, and Virginia scrub pines in our yard (we have over 250 of these trees) . If they were as large as this one, we'd have to use our 16' trailer to carry them out. lol We love pine trees and planted all of ours almost 30 years ago. My home is on the same farm I grew up on, and we have loblollies I planted with my father at age 6 or 7. Needless to say, now that I'm a semi-old lady of 58, they are some big trees for TN. Nothing beats those redwoods and giant pines out in your area however. One of my greatest joys in life was seeing the coastal redwoods and the giant sequoias in the Mariposa Grove at Yosemite. That will stay with me until I die-what a glorious sight for an old tree hugger like myself. Thanks for sharing the picture!

I love pinecones and have for as far back as I can remember.

This is me now, and just like a tree, I have increased in girth. :-/ I still like large tree parts, though.

Thanks again Kelli. I just love it here, everyone is so willing to help.

Sorry, meant to tell you, beautiful pine cones and pictures. I hope I do get the cones on my sequoia.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

I don't know if they have to be of a certain age before they produce cones. I mean, if you live to be 2000 years old, what's the hurry?

Kelli-I also love the giant leaf-it's scary to think of those if they were off deciduous trees (lol). We're facing weeks of leaf-raking here at my house with many oaks in the yard, and that gets old real fast. Thanks again for sharing.
