well i did my weeding...boy i couldnt believe how many weeds were in the greenhouse over the summer, so.....i bought some of the black landscape stuff, bought fresh gravel and here are my 2 men at work.....it made me so happy that they did this for me...there was no way i coulda wheeled so many barrels of gravel into the greenhouse...my dh said it needed to be at least 2 inches thick....and boy it is, if not more..lol....i cant wait, next year i wont have the weed problem and hopefully i wont have the baby grasshopper problem
see, when we put this up last fall, we just some what leveled the spot, and put down some river rock...dh said we should do the weed block...i said, naw itll be ok...boy was i wrong...lol...but now i have learned more from everyone here and my own experience....lol
just wanted to share and had to take a pic of it being nice and clean...till this weekend...thats when im gonna start putting stuff back in for the winter....its still very nice here but the cool nites are getting cooler and im afraid that i will start losing my cacti
ok im done jabbering now...lol
just to narrate...you see boss#2(my 16 year old)telling boss#1 where the low spots are...lol

gettin ready!!!
Very cute! I don't have any weed problems in my old greenhouse: it has a 30" foundation, and the floor doesn't get much light. You might try Treflan, a pre-emergent weed granule. I use it outside, and it works like a charm. I have only weeded outside once all season. I cleaned up throughly in early April, and the weeds are only now beginning to pop up. Treflan is only good for preventing seeds from germinating: it won't help with weeds that have runners, but it eliminates about 95% of my weeds.
How do you heat your GH? It must get pretty cold there in Missouri!

i heat it with this big monster.....lol.....my propane guy said i actually did pretty good for the size of the g/h and only having the one layer of plastic on it...i bought this furnace for $25...the pipe to go outside was what cost so much...lol....i just hope everything fits back in there.....woohoo!!
Looks great!!! How big is it? I am getting my first GH - only a tiny 6x8 thing, but it is better than nothing!! I'm wiping the drool from my chin....
its 12X24...and i luv it....of course you always say....'i shoulda got a bigger one'...lol...but hindsight is 20/20......they fill up fast, thats for sure

Looks terrific!
Some of our greenhouses have been around long enough that perennial weeds are getting a foothold. One is next to our grove & black raspberry bushes have invaded. They grow unbelivible fast once inside. I've cut some back 3 or 4 times this year. I will probably use some Roundup on them after the other plants are out of there.
Your floor looks great!

Mercy! I'm glad others have this problem too! Right now mine is growing up in morning glorys! It's a summer chore to keep the weeds down in there! By the way, I have weed mat down also, and several inches of gravel...it won't stop a determined weed/plant from germinating in there. It'll slow them down though so you can get a grip on things.
I'll be in mine this week, weeding, re-vamping things, re-arranging tables and such, and doing my yearly "clean the heater tubes" (which usually leave me looking like a chimney sweep!) and gearing up for winter.
Don'tcha just luv these greenhouses! They are well worth the effort involved in building them and maintaining them! (I just gotta remember that last sentence next time I'm in a "grumpy gonna give up" mood!)
We did the initial "winterizing" of my little ole greenhouse this past weekend (it's a PVC structure with clear UV-rated plastic overlay. We moved it off the concrete pad to a grassy area (one more teenage driver means my GH space has been taken over by a fourth vehicle!) so landscape fabric went down first. I'm hoping it'll keep the weeds at bay for this season, then next year a new GH (fingers crossed ;o)
DH and boy s built me some nice new benches (the old ones had become too rickety to be safe) out of cinder blocks topped with slats and hardware mesh - no tipsy pots or cell packs! then they snugged up everything nice and tight, and now all that's left is to clean up the cells and pots, stack 'em in a new shelving unit, then fill up the horse trough "winter pond" for my tender pond babies, lug in the few containers of tropicals, re-hang the lights and get the propane tank filled before they start predicting freezes...piece a cake, lolol.
By the time I get all that done, it'll be time to start thinking about next year's seeds and plants!
i also got started on picking up the pots that had once held a plant or 2...some didnt make it, some were annuals...i didnt get very far since the dry van i use for storage was blocked by my sons p/u tires..and they are off since he fried his rear end in the truck...lol...boy these kids just kinda take over dont they....lol..oh well next weekend ill hit it again...:)

Shoe, Do you know of anyone has ever tried using tar paper under pea gravel ?
Hmmm...nope, sure haven't. Might be good for a while though...however water will break it down fairly quick.
Forget I asked that, I'm loosing brain cells too fast anymore.
ACK ! ! ! tarpaper would poison the ground .... DUH ! .... DUM !
I still don't believe I asked that ;'(
OK the pummeling may commence now ...................
edit .. can not spell anymore either ;-(
