Anyone else have one of these? I'm wondering about hardiness, because I eventually want to put it in the ground if it's possible. I think the pot it's in will work until next year, but I want to be prepared in advance to either dig a hole or get a bigger pot lol. My plant below was grown from seed and will be 4 years old next January.
Bismarckia nobilis anyone?
Oh, that is nice, what a lovely colour shade! I Love it!
It is now a new addition to my "wish" list.
Same here,that is great looking.
zone 9a is pushing it, but if it's really hot right after the cold snaps, it should do OK... I would protect it the first few years, though -get to 20F where you are?... probably 22F is it's life or death limit unless it's a really big (trunking) palm... if it's the blue version... and it looks like it is. Really the palm doesn't like going below 27F... I had one a bit larger t han that that died after 25F defoliated all but the spike... and then 1 month of cool weather did the spike in. But in Florida, where it gets colder, but not for anywhere near as long, 25F wouldn't be the end of the world. Not familiar with Texas weather.
They grow here and I was going to add that they get huge. Palmbob, yours looks great! Before the trunk gets tall, they take up a lot of space in the yard. If you like the color, but want a smaller palm, try the Mexican Blue fan palm.
Thanks Palmbob, Cala. I can't bring myself to risk losing it, because I never really know what the weather here is gonna do. It's been a long time since it was less than 20F, but may be 70 one day and 30 the next, so I'm gonna keep potting it up until I simply can't find a pot to hold it.
The one in your pic is amazing, Palmbob.
I got one not near as large I was told by the nursey that for florida that this is as far north as it will do well in I do cover mine when frost is in the forcast.
Palmbob how old is yours?? looking forward to mine getting that big and beautiful
