Hey Root, guess what???

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I've got a bud on my nana!! This was taken two days ago, I need to get another pic because the bud has really grown and is starting to hang down. This is a Dwarf Cavendish. I guess it could be dwarf, the trunk is only about 6ft as opposed to the 10ft trunks on regular bananas!

Gosh Susie, how do you keep the leaves from shredding in the wind? Mine looks pretty bad. How old is this one? I just got my pup this spring, so I know I have some waiting to do yet.

Shirley, this one holds up in the wind pretty good. I bought it this past spring, it was in a gallon pot and was about 12-18 inches tall. I was so surprised at how fast it grew. I've given it palm food twice, azalea food twice and 45-0-0 fertilize one time.
It has a lot of little pups around the base but I can't get them out without tearing up the main plant. I guess I'm supposed to take them out, but I don't want to killl the big plant.

Are you suppose to take the pups out???!!!!
On my one with nanas 2 of the pups are getting real big

Gosh, maybe mine will bloom soon then. I got it in April. Sounds like you need the Root Doctor down there. He removed the pups from mine this summer.

CC, after your nanas ripen, doesn't the big plant die off? Might be good to have the new one right there and ready to grow.

I found confusing info from the banana sites. It said to remove pups as soon as they were visible but leave one, then later on leave another so that you will always have fruit, then it said not to remove the pups till there were three or four big ones to anchor the plant and the pups needed to be three feet tall before removing. I am confused!(of course I stay that way most days)
I'm going out now to take a pic so I don't forget.

Here is the flower today. If it keeps turning down, it's going to be touching the ground soon!

I'm going to grow another one in a separate pot. I believe mine still had one or two pups coming up when I was looking at the roots at potting time. I may have messed it up good, but that's okay. Won't be the first time I've done something wrong and won't be the last either. LOL!

Brugie, they sure do pup a lot don't they?

I've been amazed. I think there have been four removed from mine already.
