Reminders for Holiday Cactus and Poinsettas

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

This was in last weeks Kansas State Ext. newsletter regarding darkness requirements for Thanksgiving & Christmas cactuses and Poinsettas. Good info to remember if you're wanting to have blooms around the holidays this year.

Thanks for the reminder!

I think my Gold Charm has been kind of confused this year. It bloomed on and off all summer, and it's blooming right now!

what do you do with them after the season is over.

I have mine in a hanging basket on the lanai and it stays there all year. It gets late afternoon sun. Now is the time to take cuttings. Just break off a "leaf" or I should say several lobes and stick them in the dirt. Use another pot or the same pot if you want the plant to look fuller. Keep moist until they take and then keep on the dry side. This year my cactus was beautiful.

Both of mine are going into bloom again now. I have a fuschia one and white one. Both are in south facing windows. Both are less than 2 yrs. old; the white one didn't bloom at Xmas, but the fuschia one did. Is this strange? Thanks.

If you are interested in trading cuttings, please post on this thread what you have and what you want. Kinda lika a group trade/swap.

I would be glad for someone other than me to take over and run the swap

As I remember, there is a Thanksgiving, Christmas and an Easter cactus. The leaves are different from one another. One has points and the others are more rounded. Who has what, i don't remember. Sorry. But that would explain the different blooming times.

A Holiday Cactus?

How about a "Well Cared For Generic Holiday Cactus"?

All of mine ( who shall remain nameless) ;o) which are all different colors bloom off and on all year long.

I like the surprise of it.

They just live in the sunroom and get put where ever I want them when I move furniture and 40 plants of all kinds around.
