Adopted Traffic Island

Salem, MA(Zone 7a)

I have adopted a traffic island in a low income neighborhood which hasn't been taken care of for a while. Last year, I had a group come out and help me dig up all the debris, toss away feces, bottles, litter and get most of the creepy crawly bugs out.

This year I planted iris, lillies, ornamental grasses, and some other flowers. But it takes way too much effort to continue to deweed the thing. I'm giving up.

I have pictures of the traffic island. I have asked several companies to help by donating so I can create a rock garden. And have basically been turned down and ignored by them since we don't have any local nurseries that are willing to donate. "The economy is too bad and we can't afford to donate anything"..is the typical excuse.

Any other ideas so that I won't have to continue deweeding all the crabgrass and daffodils, etc.

The area does not have access to a water hose. It grows very fast!
