Hedychium coronarium

Early morning glows almost like mother of pearl. Looks like butterfly.

Your flower is sooooooooo beautiful! I really like the iridescence of mother of pearl.
And in the shape of a Butterfly flower is really breath taking!

You must get lots of oohs and aahs when people see them; they may not even believe that they are a real flower..

They usually open at dusk and close early morning. We have few visitors due to our remote location. Only a couple of people have seen them. They attract the very large moths that are larger than a Hummingbird. People around here call them Hummingbird Moths. These flowers have a nice, but strong smell. Easily noticed from 10 feet away.

I think the Mother of Pearl look is partially due to very wet dew and nightly fog. It goes away after sunrise.

May I ask you where you got/bought the bulbs for the Hedychium coronarium?
I've never seen them advertised any where.

A neighbor gave us one. She doesn't remember where she got it. I will check and see if they are available locally and let you know.

Oh, thanks alot PotEmUp. Now I might put the squeeze on my brothers.
They owe mom big time. They'd be for her; not me. She really loves exotic looking plants.
And she also loves mother of pearl.

I have been running into your photos everywhere. You abilities never cease to amaze me! You are truly an invaluable contributor to these forums. This photo is yet another example. Gosh, thank you.
