Are you sure that what you have is a Fargsia species? The Am. Bamboo Soc. website shows the Fargsia species as not being tolerant of the high temperatures, as we would have most of the time in Florida:

http://www.americanbamboo.org/SpeciesSourceListPages/SpeciesTableF.html

"Fargesia Clumping bamboos from the alpine conifer forests of west and southwest China. Medium to small and all very cold hardy, but not tolerant of extremely high summer temperatures. Flowers like toothbrushes."

I've been growing bamboos for over 25 years and haven't found a clumping mountain bamboo that can stand up to to the Florida heat. They will decline each year until after a few years the plant is dead.

Beautiful bamboo. I just got one this year. It's only 1 foot tall. It is growing so slowly that I don't know when I will have 6 feet bamboo like yours. I put it at a partial shade coz the website says it doesn't tolerate the heat.

Newfoundland is never hot, hence this cool-growing bamboo does perfectly well in full sun. When I got mine 8 years ago, it was a one-year old seedling..only 4 inches tall! The first two-three years it slowly got bushier then reached about a foot or so. After that, it started to send up a few much taller canes. This past 3 years , the new canes are 1 foot taller each season. Mine is nearly level with the fence now, so its protection from cold winter winds is near an end. It will probably top off at only 6-7 feet for me, but maybe I'll be surprised.
