Hi everyone.
I just started grew brugmansias 2 years ago.
Now my plants start blooming and I am totally possessed with their fragrance.
Please bear with my elementary school level question.
Why do some plants including some brugmanias have strong scent only at night?
brugmansia scent at night
Yum...
The scent is an effort to attract some night pollionator to the flower.. a large Moth or other night flying insect.. lured by the scent.. It's advertising it's nectar in an effort to become poloniated... do you put on perfume when you go out in the evenings...
Gordon
Very good Gordon, I like how you splained that!!! I ditto that :D
Julie
lololol love your explanation Gordon!!
Welcome to the Garden yumiko you will love it here....you certainly discovered the right forum for fueling your obsession to new heights!! ;) Please stop by the Canadian Forum and say "Hi", we love to meet Dave's newest members and find out what you have growing in your garden. :D
Welcome Yumiko, to the brug forum. Gordon did a great job of explaining the reason for night scent. I hope you will come back and visit with us often. This is a great forum with lots of beautiful people, plants, and information.
Thanks Gordon.
I thought scent has something to do with light or humidity but pollination
makes good sense.I like the way you answered with good humor.
Your snowbank is so gorgeous. I wish my brugs will grow like yours in the future.
Hello BrugAddict and Lilypon
I always enjoy your thread.
Liz told me lat least I should say hi to Canadian Forum too.
Everyone at DG has so much knowledge and I was embarrassed myself.
Plus English is not my native tongue, I was afraid of making any grammer mistakes.
Nice to see you guys.
Congratulation Brugie!
That double pink is just beautiful. I love light pink with hint of purple colour.
I am just a baby at this forum. Some day I would like to reach to the level
than can make my own hybrid brug. When? Maybe 100 years later..
Welcome yumiko. Think you'll like us brugnuts here. We all started with 1-2-3 brugs and now have 100's. I have put my hand to pollinating and getting pretty good at them "taking". Nothing fantastic yet, but maybe, someday I'll have a triple pink/yellow.!
Gloria
I'm glad you made it here Yumiko. Don't worry, I have asked every dumb question already. LOL
We're all hear to learn so I hope you feel comfortable here soon.
Hallo yumiko and welcome to the brug forum. Dont worry about your grammar. I am from Germany and my english is not the best.

Hello Hibiscus.
I started one brug a while ago and now I have ten. Brugs grow so fast , it keeps up with my patience level.
They are just wonderful flowers. Good luck on your triple pink/yellow.

Hello Monika
It is honor to receive a reply from the Brugmanisa meister.

When I read your thread, I could not tell if you are German or North American.
Coming to this forum I realize that we are kind of connecting each other through horticulture
and there is no border.
