need a name for this season

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

It's a weird time of year. Haven't really given up on things - so I don't want to start pulling and cleaning up. But I don't seem to have the interest in deadheading, trimming, fertillizing and generally providing TLC since I know any night could be the last. Not really ready to start planning next year but not much to look forward to this year. What shall we call this no garden's land of the time before killing frost. Lotus landers will not understand this state of mind and land.

The Whatever season as in the 70's Show.

Yep dem BC'ers would have trouble with that (this state of mind and land). Personally I think it's best described as the end of season duldrums (combined with anxiety......where am I going to put all of these plants???????) and mixed in with resignation/fear of what's looming ahead. :b

Think about this though, folks. Think of all the bugs tht do not survive our winters. I don't mind the snow. No weevils, no banana slugs. SUN.

I'm starting to feel picked on. LOL
And it is cold here. I will have to start thinking about bringing in the more tropical plants soon. The ones that need 55F and up. All I need to do is find my list of which ones they are, then actually do it.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Oh Liz......we would never pick on you!..... (does a lie not count if you are crossing your fingers and toes???)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

We have a couple of weeks left, and maybe four, before frost in Iowa. I am like you Pam. Not wanting to get started. I keep telling myself that I'm not keeping all of this stuff this year and then I think, well maybe I should. I just keep going back and forth. My words for this time of the year are "It's the pits" and I don't like it. By the way...my mind is made up. I'm not keeping it all. I need to dig my hibiscus, take some brug cuttings and a few coleus cuttings. The potted ears will winter in the garage, hopefully and if not, I'll buy them next year. I just want to be able to see out my windows this winter.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

echoes I think you have the best name for this time of year!

Oh Brugie.......I'll adopt any cuttings you don't want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) Imma pretty sure (positive) one or two of mine could be shoved out in the snow to make room for a few of your beauties!! ;)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

It's the Pits Shirley? LOL, you have said that you're tossing plants every year. Is Root going to come help you move stuff inside?

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Inanda let's pray we have *lots* of SUN combined with good snow cover (please within reason) this year.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Just a reminder esteemed lady gardeners, that SUN means CLEAR, means COLD. Especially this time of year, I pray for a good cloud cover on these cool autumn days to prevent any chance of the Frost! (Yikes, there I said it!)

I'll gladly take the cloud cover right now.....but as far as winter goes....that is all we saw last winter (and spring, and summer and fall) and all were as cold as friggen &@%%! (However I do know it should work the way you posted OldFlowerGirl) ;)

Can you tell I'm still bitter about the summer that never was???

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

OK this is it - definite -1 tonite. the indoor pond is filled with plants. the brugs are save in the garage and to heck with the rest of it. Brugs will be horse trailering to their winter home on Wednesday. One of them is now so tall that it has to bend to go in the garage. Soon will be 9 feet tall. Picked the rest of the eggplants today - all 4 of them. Time to think about other things like the Christmas season and the NYE menu and stuff like that.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

You are far ahead of me Lynn!! I just caught 80 new baby fish........hoping to beat some of the joys of emptying the pond the night before it snows.

Please don't be so cruel...........Christmas Season???? yuck.......oh well, maybe it's like seeing the date on the Coca-Cola bottle, once it's there it comes so quick and then we are that much closer to a new growing season. :D

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

yes but my christmas season starts in late october when we start decorating the place and the first christmas parties are the first week of november and I have to have all my menus ready and the staffing and all that stuff. It kind throws the whole calendar out of kilter by about 6 to 8 weeks. Must be like the retail folks who are busy planning the spring lines and displays now.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL.....I intensely dislike going into a store in mid August and seeing the Christmas displays already!! I can understand your need to plan right now but............. Imma trying to hold on to the thought that there is something between then and now!! Speaking of which I love Hallowe'en!! It's a major holiday in this house! (wishing I could make a smiley face with fangs!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

The sky is loaded with stars, tonight...........yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sunshine tomorrow!
