Boonies, SD(Zone 4b)

Good evening folks!!
I've been doing the happy dance for the last half hour. My orchid has a flower spike on it!! Wooo Hooo!!!

This is an orchid given to me by my hubby's cousin (more like a sister to him). Anyway, I don't know where she got it, but she had it for quite a few years and could not get it to bloom. It has black spots on the leaves, so she thought it had some kind of scale or something. So, she heard I had a couple of orchids and gave me this one. (Thanks a lot!!) LOL I don't know what kind it is even. BUT..... I think there is going to be one of those neener....neener....neener phone calls that will have to be made (she has a good sense of humor, she won't be mad). OK, I'm trying to get a grip here. Settle down. Take a deep breath. (talking to myself here!!)

OK, grip gotten.

I'm so glad that most of our southern friends seem to be ok. I have been watching the weather forum and it is really scary. I thought being in tornado alley was bad, but that hurricane was a monster. Hope all the other folks that get lots of rain will be ok. Looks like it will be going on for a few more days.

We got about 2 and a half inches of rain the other night. There was lots of thunder and lightning. I woke up about 2 in the morning because the cracks of thunder and lightning were so close. Of course, there is metal scaffolding right outside the bedroom window and my bed is right on the other side. (Good conductor, don't you think!!) When I asked DH to go move the scaffolding ;) he said fat chance and rolled over and went back to sleep. Well, I probably was hogging the middle of the bed most of the night. Those lightning bolts were too close!! He knew I was kidding. Poor guy, no wonder he has gray hair. LOL

The evenings are getting cooler and makes sleeping nice. You can hear the crickets and all the bugs chirping at night. It's kind of soothing. (Ok, I'm weird) The only thing I don't like is the flies trying to get into the house. At school, they like to leave the front door wide open to catch the breeze, but they also catch lots of flies. The cook down in the kitchen gets cranky when there are lots of flies buzzing around the salad bar. LOL

My young chickens are starting to lay eggs. The eggs are about half the size of the others, so I would think it would be the young ones eggs. I still haven't had time to clean the coop. They are going to go from being free range to cooped up. They aren't going to be happy. I might have to make some soup out of a few roosters too. Time to winterize the chicken coop.

Well, better get those dishes done. They aren't going to get done by themselves.

Take care everyone.
Ruth
