It is funny that one of the names is Missouri gourd...I have never seen any. Maybe they are down in the boothill, some of that is zone 7.
Can you use these for fall decorations?

That is strange that you have never seen one of these plants. These are abundant here and I love to find them in bloom and with the gourds of course. They can become quite large plants. The gourds are small compared to a lot of other types. I have never used them for decorations, but that is a good idea. Thanks for your comments.

I've just found this plant growing in my holly shrub. I didn't know what it was but that's what it looks like, the flower and the gourd.

Hi Toxic!! htop, That truely is funny to see a gourd that has Missouri as one of its names. I may have to try to grow some next year. Thanks for posting it!!

sjwelch, they are a great vine if they aren't covering up other plants. I am glad you have its identification now.

pepper23, you would think it would be growing all over Missouri since "Missouri" is part of its name. I love these vines. They can grow quite large. They used to be growing wild all over San Antonio. With urban expansion, I see fewer and fewer of them now. I am happy that I could post photos of one and you are quite welcome.

I think it's funny, too, that they're called Missouri gourd. They are all over the place in the right habitat here in southern California. They must have a huge native range.

Kelli,
Boy, they sure must. I have always loved the beautiful blooms and the lovely leaves as well as the gourds.
