Someone kick me into the next galaxy!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Because I'm about to foster a 10 year old lab that was dumped by her family. I've gone over in my head about a million times why I shouldn't foster such a old dog. Then I got to thinking, why not? Why is her life less important then a younger dog? Anyone have any words of wisdom? Also keep your fingers crossed that she's good with cats..... Going to try and cat test her at the shelter.
Here she is: http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=3335952

Her picture makes her look very cute and some what clean. Really she's a mess. Her coat is in the worst shape of any dog I've ever seen. It looks like she has a really bad case of split ends. She's sheding so much you could make another dog with all the hair. She also has what feels like fatty tumors on her chest and stomach. My only stipulation in taking this dog was if she does have a malignant tumor I do not want her treated with chemo or anything radical while she's in my care. Not for a dog who is so old. I've been down that road before with my own dog. I will not do it again. I made sure the rescue understood how important that was to me. She would just live out her life until she started to show signs of pain.
Thanks for listening to me...
((hugs))

Edited to add another link: If the lab girl isn't good with cats I'm going to look at this girl as well. She's six. Still considered old in terms of adoption from the shelter. http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=3350345&adTarget=468doggeneral&SessionID=414991601857b31f-app5&display=&preview=yes&row=0&tmpl=&stat=
