Hi everybody, I wanted to start out by saying my Koi, even the import blue one is doing fine, and all my others, (shubunkins had babies), and my goldfish are fine(and had babies). I lost one of those big fat Blowfish looking fancy goldfish a little while back, poor guy-or girl.
But, MY CONCERN IS THAT: whenever the water first went from clear brownish-pond green, to a milky brown as if 2-1,2, or more gallons of milk had been poured in there it worried me. I couldn't see my fish, but all plant were thriving, and I know it was not milk, but in these past years I've never seen that happen. So, Ist I added Algae fix, then pond salt, then bought a UV Sterilizer and a pretty good size one. Well, that cleared it up almost all the way. I can see my fish now, but it still has that little bit of milky color.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be or ever experienced it before? I have tons of water hyacinths, Elephant ears, water lily's in there and parrot's feateher. Could too mant plants cause this?
Please lmk, it is about to be the end of the seson and I want to clear it up!
BTW, Does anyone want any water hyacnths???? I really need to thin them!!!!
Thanks,
Traci

White Water
If your water is a white, milky color or cloudy you are probably experiencing a bacterial bloom. This is a condition that affects aquariums often, not just the pond. AccuClear is a perfect remedy for this situation. This is one of the few times we will ever advocate the use of chemicals (other than de-chlorinator) in your pond. We use a brand called AccuClear often with great results. It is important that you dose the water correctly and have plenty or aeration for the fish because the coagulation that occurs when AccuClear (or any other brand of this type) is used will take a great amount of the water’s dissolved oxygen and can be hazardous to the fish.
I dont think too many plants would cause that. How about some Koi clay to try to clear the water.

Hi,
And thanks for the advice. But, I have a? What is Koi clay? Does it look like clay, and what does it do for the pond and koi?
Thanks So much!
Traci
Tracy, Just do a search for koi clay and you will find alot of info. Like many other pond things, some people swear by it and others swear at it ! Supposedly it adds beneficial minerals to your pond water and fish, helps with digestion, helps clear water and works against string algea.
I bought some of the name brand KOI CLAY at a local store at $10 per lb and like it alot. I bought some off ebay recently for about $5 per lb and although it is the same material, I dont like that consistency of it as well.
I'm going back to Koi village or somewhere and order more Koi Clay next season you can get the real Koi clay online for about $6 per pound. You only put about 1 teaspoon per 1000 gallons a couple times a week and I figure it cant hurt and might help !
