The chambered pods still have some seeds. The seeds are eaten by bobwhite quail and mourning doves.

Does this one have orange flowers?? I have one that appeared in my yard this year. I saved some seeds just in case it was a flower from a far away area....

It has small orangish gold blooms as shown here:

Yep, that's the same one I have that is at your place.....Whew what a long way for a seed to travel! They normally are from Texas correct??

I'll have to check, but I think they are native plants in other states as well. If they are native only in the south, that is a long way for a seed to travel! :o)

There are many different species of Abutilon that have somewhat similar blooms, leaves and seedpods.

Abutilon theophrasti (Indian Mallow) appears to be the only one that is native to Pennsylvania. Here's a link showing the distribution of various Abutilon. Pull down the page and click on the camera that is with the Abutilon theophrasti map. The photo shows the side view of the seedpods.
